Best new (or almost new car) for $25k or less?

Hey soon I need to get a new car. I don't want to buy something way expensive so whats the best car for $25k or less. Looking at 2002 or 2001 cars. So whats the best car for my money?

Why not test drive one of Edmund's Editors' Most Wanted Vehicles for 2002?

First Drive: 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis
  • Yeah, we know: the Mercury Grand Marquis is just a fleet car, or a mode of transport for seniors, especially those living in a Florida retirement community.

Think again. The new 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis may not be the sexiest car on the road, but for under $30,000, it is a terrific deal. Even if you're not driving to a canasta game or to the early-bird special at the Loaded Plate buffet, you'll enjoy its sumptuous ride, commodious interior, vibrant powertrain and surprisingly dynamic handling..."
Try it, you might like it! 😉

2002 Civic lX. Get a stillen intake, Chrome Y-pipe, 150 shot NOS, and carbon fiber flywheel you'll be pushing 350 HP at the wheels and smoke everyone!!!

Oh and don't listen to Ornery. He's a senior citizen in training, hence his choice of cars 😉 :Q

you know y-pipes are only for V-engined cars! tsk..tsk...you need a titanium downpipe wiht regulated valves for maximum flow.

carbon fiber flywheel? You know the hardcore racers get carbonfibre axles/halfshafts with a 6-bolt posi-trac differential bolted to the front!

in all seriousness, a Maxima, WRX, used Supra all sound like a good choice depending on what you want.

Drop a slick 65 valve onto the Y-pipe actuator and it can run on non-v engines!

Used 2002 Maxima SE w/ sunroof, and leather. It's available in an auto, or a six-speed manual.

Thirded. 😛

A really terrific idea...I would! Thus far, our maxima, albeit with 5 speed manual, is amazing! 🙂

2k3 Accord. Take your pick of motors to suit your needs. Nissan's QC has slipped a bit recently.

Heh, that's what fanboys in the losing camp always say. Back in the day it was the domestic fanboys. I guess it's the nissan camp these days.

At any rate, I don't believe it's without merit when you take it for what it measures, a general review of build quality in the first 3 months of ownership. It won't predict how likely your powertrain will break in five years, but it will measure how likely you are to encounter things like poorly fitted interior/exterior parts, rattles, creaks, poor paint quality, etc.

If you really want a bargain, a LOT of bang for the buck, there is a big plus to buying a grandpa-mobile. Since they're not in great demand, the price for a used one is reasonable. Since they're usually not owned by lead foot punks, they're generally not beat on either. My wife snagged this 1999 with 30K on the odometer for $13,000 out the door and it's loaded. IMO, they look pretty decent with the red exterior and alloy rims too!

Trust me - I'm far from a fanboy. I just don't think you can judge what car is best for your money based on a survey. Honestly, nothing one the internet can compare to actually testing the car yourself. I used to own a Maxima, and my father currently ownes a 2k2 GLE. From my experiences with them, I can honestly say that I would have no problem reccomending as one of the best cars for under 25k (used).
