Hey guys,

I am looking for the best multiplayer game that uses modern weapons (rifles, guns etc) to set up as a game server for me and 8 of my friends. I'd like to have it run with bots when I have noone else to play with , so I think that rules out BF1942 or Mohaa and RTCW or am I mistaken. We currently have soldier of fortune II, unreal tournet and 2003, Q3 and rtcw. Are there mods for any of thoe games that might accomplish this????

thanks!

BF1942 + Desert Combat mod :)

Brings it right up to date with modern guns, tanks, planes, helicopters :)

Oldie but still a goodie, IMO. You could tyr Operation Flashpoint and it's expansion packs Red Hammer and Resistance. Set around 1985 but uses some of the current real world weapons. Plus it has way bigger maps than BF 1942 and you can do Co-op mission as well instead of just team vs team multiplay.

It does, very stupid though (bots)

If you have a spare computer, set up a dedicated server, using this program, and set the CPU usage to about 95% for the bots, and put the bot AI up :)

Make sure you set it up as a Co-Op game, as that will put bots in to fill the rest of the spaces :)

You could try Tactical Ops for UT, not a bad mod, a bit like CS, and you can use the UT bots as well.

You can probably get a version for free, I guess. There might be an old version somewhere, like Kazaa or something.

I can´t believe nobody said Operation Flashpoint. If you think it´s a bit unupdated (in the weapons and vehicles), you can download mods...

I'm going to cast a second vote for the BF1942 + Desert Combat mod. It's pretty impressive (big 300+ meg download tho)

I agree BF1942 and Desert Combat unfortunately the latest versions of each and the No cd patches don't seem to play well together unless someone can help otherwise.

I'm using BF1942 1.4 patch, the Road to Rome expansion and Desert Combat 0.38 with a no-cd crack from gameburnworld with no trouble. Bless those guys at gameburnworld. I'd go nuts without no-cd patching all my games. Add the +restart to the command line of your no-cd patched bf1942 and the game literally starts in 1/4 the time.

Last night, I tried Q3: Arena with some realistic combat mod. It's like CS with really good graphics. Unfortunately, I'm at work right now so I can't find out what it's called.

Operation Flashpoint was a LOT of fun. Would Co-Op that with a buddy. Too bad we ran out of good co-op missions! I am in a good mood to reinstall that one!

No. There's another mod for Q3. It's called like Real Combat or something like that I think. I really liked it.

Sorry for the noob question, but where would I find the command line to do what you suggest?

Its called True Combat, find it at truecombat.com. After a couple years of waiting, beta 1.0 finally came out this month, giving a facelift to the graphics and smoothing out some of the gameplay. The bot support is... alright, but the game really shines in multiplayer with friends, very well-paced tactical combat.

Yeah. That's it. The bot combat gets pretty tedious after a while, but the gameplay is perfect for playing with a small group of people.

I'd say Rainbow 6: Raven Shield.
LOTS and LOTS of real world guns, and the AI is DANGEROUS, which I can't say about many games' AI.

Another mod for UT is Infiltration.

Operation Flashpoint is excellent, isn't as pretty as BF1942, but as mentioned previously has huge maps(10km across!) compared to BF1942.
