ok.......there it is.........i'm wanting to make vcd's to play in my dvd player......but i have avi's and divx stuff that i need to get into mpeg so roxio easy cd creator 5.0 will burn them....n e advice????

I'm not sure how to make VCDs in Roxio (probably not that hard though), but a lot of people including me like TMPGenc for encoding MPEGs.

TMPGEnc is free & very versatile but can be difficult for newbies.

Xing is also powerful but it's not free.

Roxio's VideoPack is the easiest of all with burning capability (video encoding/editing + cd burning combined) and full support for avi but it's $500.

You can also use AVI2VCD which is free and pretty quick (grab the version with the "decompress" function).

Check out VCD Help for more info.

TMPGEnc is best but as Doh as said has a brutal learning curve. CCE is another but its not free and costs a buttload. If you ever decide to start ripping dvds then you would be better to try doing SVCD.

They've got links to all the tools at www.vcdhelp.com somewhere

I agree, TMPGenc does have a pretty bad learning curve. It took me a few days to find the (somewhat) hidden template settings for making VCD-compliant video clips. ^_^;;;
