CDEX is no doubt the best, it's FREEware and it has the LAME encoder...

great great software, makes excellent mp3s and also rips CD's.. does everything!

did i mention it was freeware? GOOD STUFF!

I just learned of AudioCatalyst yesterday, and so far I'm loving it! No problems, and rips an entire CD in less than 15min at 192kbps

What he says, and it seems others are in the same boat. I think that truly is a good solution. I have used Audiocatalyst without problems as well, but under Win2K I can't rip faster than like 1x, for some reason. So it doesn't cut it for me. Plus it stops the sound, or plays the song. Kind of ticks me off. With LAME and Exact Audio Copy, you can't go wrong. Two seperate programs for two seperate jobs. They both do their respective jobs quite nicely.

By the way, LAME and EAC are perfect for you, because they are very small to download and very efficient. EAC has tons of options so you can customize cd ripping to perfectly match your needs. LAME is a great encoder (I also use RazorLame), it has no restrictions and I think it's free as well. Encode at 192 to your heart's content. Or just encode at 256 or 320. ;)

EAC and LAME...

Fastest Ripper + Best Sounding Encoder in most all comparisons. If you use Audiocatalyst or Audiograbber.. by GOD do not use the Xing encoder that comes with that.

oh please lord... no one litter the web with more crappy xing encodes. :(

if your cd is in good condition, CDEX will be fine. but it's not at the best at handling errors/stratches/etc. for that i would recommend EAC.

remember, LAME is good. accept no substitutes. :p
