iRiver IFP-190TC. $199 gets you a tiny, light MP3 player with a great screen and interface, constantly enhanced firmware and 256MB of solid state storage. Really a great device IMO.

I wouldn't spend more than $100 on a Mp3 player because if your like me and you lose stuff easily, its $$$ down the drain. BTW get the RCA K@zoo, its $79 for the 32mb version and it takes SD cards. K@zoo is very small and perfect for the gym.

Muvo's are pretty good AMG, nice and small with pretty good storage. Also, sometimes Apple sells refurbished ipods for about $200 so might want to look out for that.

If you do a little search for mp3 player you'll find a post that i made a few days ago when i was looking for one too. I decided to go for the Nomad Jukebox II from Creative Labs. It was 200 dollars and i've found it to be great. It has 10 gigs worth of storage and a lot of nice features like id3 functionality, backlight, search capability, playlists, and more stuff that i haven't used yet. You might want to look into that. I went to best buy and used the 10% off coupon at the time to get it for 180 dollars.

apple.com, $199 for a 5GB mac model.
Also, Dell usually sells new win32 5GB model for ~$240

i agree with the ipod reccomendations. however:

as a past owner of an mp3 player, i must say that minidisc is the way to go tho. here are the reasons:

- better battery life
- more portable (than hard drive players)
- cheap media ($2-3 for 160 minutes of 132kbps audio)
- cheaper than hard drive based players
- more durable than hard drive based players
- 132kbps atrac3 sounds better than 128kbps mp3
- you don't need to go back to your computer every time you want new music like with a flash based mp3 player

the main disadvantage to the md players is the atrac encoding process. it's not bad if you have a fast processor tho. i'm surprised noone has released a md player that can play mp3. sony must have a say in things.
