Best mouthwash for kids.

I am looking for a disinfecting mouthwash suitable for kids.

Most mouthwashes even the less intense Listerine Citrus are for people 12 or over and are far to strong.

There are some for kids 6 and over and alcohol free, but often still have way to strong of mint flavor that burns.

Listerine Smart Rinse may be an option, but there may be residual fear of Listerine.

Something that tastes like Kids Crest if possible, would be perfect.

if you want to promote dental health for children i sugget you teach them to use floss (use floss-sticks so they wont need to grab the lines) and also a tongue sweeper as IMO thats the source of most bad breath

Seriously, I have heard about Act and that it is good, but I have had troubles finding it even though it should be everywhere. It is either gone or not sold anymore. Anybody know of a place that stocks a lot?

The floss sticks are also a great idea, I have reach access flosser, but it is quite old and I don't have replacements. Any recommendations on good floss sticks?

im using the cheapest generic flsos sticks which are Plackers brand. i think maybe for kids the electronic brushes (sonicare etc) perhaps have more efficacy cuz kids usually do a shite job of manual brushing (ie a few swipes across tooth and thats it)

I am a drunk and can't have mouthwash with alcohol. This is the only stuff I have found that is alcohol free and still kills gingivitis.

I agree with this. It's much more of a pleasure to use than Listerine. Although I'm no dentist, mine never seems to complain about my mouth, so it seems to work good for me.
 
Crest Pro Health was good. We bough some Tom's of Maine natural alcohol free mouthwash over the weekend. It is a bit more 'spicy' than the Pro Health, but very refreshing. Got it at Target.

This is the most recent one we tried, and while much better than most, the mint flavor is still far too strong. If only it was like Kid's Crest.

I am looking for something milder still. I may not have burn of alcohol, but it replaces it with the burn of mint.

Along with the Drano. I don't want them to go blind them you know.

I think Act is the best bet, just as soon as I can find it.
 
Friend just introduced me to fluoride rinse. Can't swallow that either, but basically there's little point in having them rinse with something if it's not fluoride or alcohol.
I alternate this and Listerine/offbrand. Both seem a little sweet to me. Since I think the cavities were growing at night, I do the fluoride before bed and try not to sleep on my stomach/face-cheek.

Yeah, for a non-alcohol rinse, Pro Health still burns with the power of 10 suns. The coating it leaves behind on your tongue isn't much of a pleasure either; it takes hours for that stuff to wear off.

Coincidentally I have the same problem as you do when it comes to finding Act, none of my local stores ever have it.
 
We have had good luck with the stuff that colors their teeth and then they have to brush it off. I am not sure of the name of it as the wife buys but the kids think its like a game. Whatever gets them to do it with the minimum of fuss works for me.
 
If you can't find ACT or fluorigard (colgate's rinse) .. (hard to fathom that you can't find ACT), you could just use the generic fluoride rinse that Walmart or any drug store sells - same effectiveness and cheaper.
Make sure your kids don't swallow it! Too much ingested fluoride can lead to fluorosis in unerupted teeth.

It's Listerine Cool Blue or something. It is part of the Smart Rinse line. Just wondering, how does it taste and are your kids picky about the taste?
 
Just 'cause the ACT you bought doesn't have alcohol doesn't mean all ACT are alcohol free. Just read the label before you buy.
