Optical is still the best? Gimme some links! I play counterstrike and team arena, would optical be best, I'm fed up of my mouse getting crap in it!

I have a MS Explorer mouse and love it. I have read of more than one person having problems with them but they are garenteed for life and I understand MS is pretty good about replacing them.

I have the logitech mouseman wheel optical. I find it to be of higher quality than the ms explorer (my friend has the microsoft). It feels a little more sturdy with a more solid feel in my hand. But that's just my personal preference though.

I like my plain MS Intellimouse (that is until I saw these posts about the optical)

Been looking at them, what's the difference between the Intellimouse optical and the explorer??

I have three optical mice: Intellimouse optical, Logitech Optical Mouseman Wheel, and a Micrsoft Intellimouse with Intellieye.

My observations:
Logitech - smoother, but smaller then the other two. However, it feels much sturdier and longer-lasting. Please say you can do weird stuff like "overclock" it with the logitech software that comes with it but I just use it normally :)

Intellimouse optical - much bigger than the Logitech one. It's made so both left and right hand people can use it. It's, in general a good mouse. Because it's sides are always sloping outward, it feels lest comfortable because you don't feel like you have complete control of it (the logitech, by comparison, drops off on the side so that you can grab it completely)

Intellimouse with Intellieye - the basic mouse with optical technology, even though it looks like the prehistoric mice is my favorite because of the ergonomics (fits only right handed people). Total control over the mouse. This thing is solidly constructed. The sensor peeps through a tiny hole and general housing is fantastic.

Button-wise, the intellimouse optical wins hands down because it has an extra button on each side (shortcuts to move back and forward in IE by default). But if you're cool with going up to the toolbar and clicking "back" manual, I'd say go for the simple Intellimouse with Intellieye.

Just my .02!

A lot of people love their boomslangs, but I'm very happy with my intellimouse explorer.

I am using the MS Intellimouse-(USB) and like it very much for my gaming...the only draw back that I have had so far is those little pads on the bottom of the mouse wearing out :)

And let me tell ya, I hated playing a game with the older mice (hehehe) and then not having the mouse move cause the ball was dirty !!

had the ms optical explorer, it crapped out on me so i went to logitech optical, that is MUCH better, but i accidentally stepped on it and crushed it so i got a razer boomslang 2000, LOVE IT, and it has patented dust barrier technology that really works, it stays gunk free for a long time now, i only have to clean about once a month, and when i do go to clean there is hardly anything to clean. did i say it was the damn smoothest mouse there it?? at 2000 dpi, its king of the hill
