My original Microsoft Intellieye Explorer has been going strong for over two years now and it's by far the best mouse I've ever used. It's absolutely awesome in games, especially in FPSes. The tracking, sensitivity and responsiveness is superb.

Oh, and I use it on a standard mouse pad. :)

OK, I still can't figure out why optical mice don't have pressure sensors for feet yet. It's an obvious fix to an experienced gamer. I don't want to raise my mouse more than I have too. I've tried gaming with optical mice when they came out, and I found them to be a nusance(yes I spelled that wrong) in FPS games. I figured that would be the easy, cheap, fix! never happened. Until it does, i will be sticking the the old school mouse. my next will be a logictec.

My opinion, is that optical mice still have room to mature and until they do, why bother buyingthem. How hard would it be to make a "high end" version for gamers? We're spending hundreds of dollars on 3d cards. I'll shell out hte extra 10 bucks for a "perfect" mouse.

Is there a significant difference between a MS Intellimouse Explorer V3.0 and a normal MS Intellimouse Optical, besides the 2 extra buttons and a higher dpi rating(600dpi IIRC?) Also, between the former and older versions of the Explorer?

I have a Kensington Mouse-in-a-box Optical Pro and it;s wonderful. I can lift it and it doesn't pick up movement, it has 4 buttons and a scrolling wheel, and it's amazingly ergonomic. It's USB with a PS/2 adapter as well. It's responsive and sensitive (which means it hardly has to be moved, so lifting it is rarely neccessary anyway). It was £30 (probably about $45) and one of the nicest pieces of kit I have.
