Hey, I have been a long time user of Intel cpu's and Intel motherboards but I do acknowledge that AMD delivers more bang for the buck. No question there. Recently my friend asked me about which motherboard for him to buy because he is building his own rig. I don't know too much about AMD motherboards and chipsets and thus turn to you guys because I am short on time and don't want to peruse the articles here.

He wants stability and decent or good performance. He is probably going to use a Duron or a Thunderbird. DDR ram is also desired. Uhm... he is not going to do any overclocking with it and is probably only going to use it for word processing, internet, mp3s, and dvds. He is not going to do a RAID setup either....

Thanks in advance! (oh it would be nice if you put the price as well)

I will jump in and add that bumping your thread twice in one hour is rude. Use the search feature to find your answer.

I second the EPoX 8KHA+, KT266A chipset(DDR). It's f'ing fast and f'ing cheap.

ECS K7S5A. It's not up to the performance of the Epox the gentlemen above listed, but isn't a lot behind. And for the purposes you listed, will do just great. It isn't an overclocker, but supports the newest Athlons, DDR, and best of all is DIRT cheap. Around $60. Don't let the cheap price deter you.

The EPoX EP-8KHA+ is an excellent motherboard, but because the KT266A is so new and the first feature you listed was "stability" I'm going to suggest the EPoX EP-8K7A. It's been on the market much longer and is known to be a very stable motherboard. I'm not saying the EP-8KHA+ is not stable. It's an excellent motherboard and would be my first choice because my first priority is performance. I'm just saying that the EP-8K7A is proven to be stable and for someone who wants stability first, this would be the board I would look at.
