Best Mobo for me... need some help, lost in the tech world

Im currently in the market for a new motherboard. Now, I was going to get one with onboard SCSI because thats what I am running now, but decided it would probably be best to just get a bootable SCSI PCI adapter to take care of that and just get the best non-scsi mobo for my needs, as it would save me a lot of money. What I need though is I want to go with the P4 2.4ghz 533fsb, I am looking for a lot of RAM ability, and need atleast 6 PCI slots. I am really liking the Intel 845g chipset because I would like to have onboard graphics incase I cant get a good graphics card right away, but I also see that I could get more for less if I just go with the 845 and provide my own graphics card.

Either way, the one I was looking at was the Epox EP-4G4A+ for a long time because it has all I need along with built in ethernet (can get rid of my NIC card), and also is ATX form fitting. I also notice they have a lot of new ones with near the same features though too.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on this? Im really getting anxious to upgrade, but dont know what I should get for my needs. Its been so long since I have kept up with current computer products, I mean, the latest thing to me was my Voodoo2 card. I have a full tower, I mean like waist high, so accomodation isnt a prob. Please, let me know with this, I am really lost.

also.... I was wondering. With my current device profile that I FINALLY got running good, will upgrading my mobo and a few other componenst screw that up, or if its all plug and play should I be fine turning it back on and booting back into my normal windows environment?
