I've been fairly out of the loop in tech for a while, so help me out here. What would be the best possible combo of a CPU and a motherboard that $100 could get me right now?

Depends on the use: low power or high speed? Need onboard video?

Newegg motherboard & CPU combos

Low power & slow:
- Mini-ITX low-power Intel Atom + motherboard from intel = $70 (sigle core), $86 (dual)

Reasonably fast single-core:
- ECS mobo + A64 3200+ single-core $76 (need heatsink!)
link - Biostar mobo + Sempron 3400+ single $73 (includes HSF)

Faster dual-core
link - Biostar mATX with nv 6150 graphics - $50
(or Similar from MSI, ECS, Zotac, etc.)
link - A64 X2 5200+ retail box - $56
(for low power, you could get one of the slower 45 watt dual-cores instead.)

Get a MB with AMD 780G chipset. That would give you great integrated graphics among other things. You should be able to find one for 70 bucks or so if you look around. Then pick up an AMD le1640 (45 watt single core 2.6 ghz) which has recently been going for 35 retail with hs/f at the egg. That would give you a great system for the price.

The other info you might want to provide is the type of ram and video you have right now. Since ram and video compatibility will determine the best mobo & cpu for $100! Obviously you want to shoot for a C2D and just overclock it!
