Best method of packing a computer for safe transport? Also using DHL

Well I had a great response to the system I was selling and it is sold.

We decided to use DHL shipping because their ground shipping was a great price. We also are going to purchase insurance for the components. Ive had good success with DHL in the past (recieving.) Any comments on shipping w/ them via ground?

I remember how the PC was shipped originally and may still have those packing materials but any tips on packing? My main goal is to keep the PC unmovable by surrounding it by blocks of that rigid foam, and then filling the rest of the space up with the popcorn foam.

Any tips on shipping electronic equipment like this would be appreciated. Its a PC in a case with all components (vid card, sound etc) installed essentially. Also shipping an LCD seperately.

If you have the original box for the case that would be adequate. As long as you pack it tight enough so that it can't move around inside the box you should be alright.

When you have it all packed in there, close the box (don't tape it just yet) and shake it around a good amount to feel if the case is moving around inside the box. Obviously if it is, then it could possibly be damaged by the guys who throw the boxes around.

Make sure nothing can come loose off the motherboard too. (that shouldn't be too much of a concern)

My advice = DON'T USE DHL!!!

Twice they have messed up my deliveries. Once the shipped a 2 day shippment on the wrong truck, delaying it for 2 days without giving a refund. Last time they dropped a $300 box off at the wrong address without getting the required signature. The times they haven't messed up they've still been slow. AVOID DHL AT ALL COST.

Hmmmm.... Thanks for the advice... I wonder if we will have to go UPS or Fedex then.

I've had bad experiences with DHL, I've only used it once, and decided never to use it again. I was ordering an item from Australia(poi couldn't find it elsewhere). They delayed my shipment for 6 days to keep it in "customs." Yes 6 DAYS. Then after 6 days they call me to confirm that it's safe to ship it. It comes to my house in California 6 days later. Then another week later, a collector comes to my house charging me $33 for the customs fee. The delivery was supposed to take 4 days TOTAL.

I have always gotten great service from both UPS and Fedex, but the best rates by far are USPS, which I use the most.

If you have an aftermarket HSF installed you may want to remove it for shipping. Some are so heavy that shipping them installed will result in a broken MB upon arrival. Aslo make sure everything else is secured inside the case, a DVD drive coming loose from its "toolless" bay can also wreak havoc.

Wow good points thorny. Thankfully it was shipped all configured so I will duplicate how Dell shipped it to me.

Also I think I will use Fed EX

Damn FED Ex is about 3x the price... but better for safer assuming it turns out that way.

I'm not sure I'll have to call them...that would be helpful though as DHL is about 3x cheaper
