Best method for tracking cell phones

I also use seekdroid and it is by far the top device locking and tracking software I have ever used. I can pull call logs, wipe SD card, wipe the device, have it inform me if the phone leaves a "fenced" in area you select (this one costs monthly) and more. I have never had any issue with it using battery life unless I am requesting the device location in which case it turns on the GPS for 5 minutes.

I also keep it hidden so if someone gets my phone they won't even know it is on the phone.

The nice part is you can do it via the website or also via text message if your not near a PC. You can send a txt to your phone from a friends phone to set off a alarm if you are somewhere and can't find the phone. Few examples are I can text my pin and the command like so...1111 alarm please return me to my owner!!!! and it will go off and cover the screen with please return me to my owner. Or I can do 1111 locate and it will text back a map like so:

Me: Location update: Accuracy: 12.0 meters Link: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=11.11111,-11.111111 *Battery remaining:94% 10:30 AM
Me: Tracking has been initiated *Battery remaining:94% 10:30 AM

I just logged into the site and "located" my phone to see if i get battery drain afterwards.

It does say it will track the phone for 5 minutes before stopping.

I will report what I find. wil probably try it a few times today.

Looks like they updated the website, looks really slick now. I wish the "fence" feature wasn't extra. I also wish they allowed 2 devices per account for the app purchase price.

I just realize there is also a button that will "Hide" the app in the app drawer. It will not let it be uninstalled in the app settings and will be visible in the market but still unable to be removed. Pretty cool.

I haven't tried it yet, but will probably do so now. But another app to consider is Cerberus.

It's gotten some pretty good reviews and has a few extra features that seekdroid does not have. Apparently it can even record audio from the microphone, take a picture with the camera you choose, take screen shot (i think).

Has a 1 week free trial then a small fee for a lifetime license. Big difference is cerberus will allow 5 devices per account.

i havent seen any battery use at all without actually polling it for a location. its not even in the list of apps using the battery at all. maps is, 8% and i havent used it since monday.so for the last 5 hours it has used 8% of my battery and hasnt been used at all. i hate that.

Do you have latitude on? Google maps shows up all the time for me too and I sometimes have latitude on but not always.

SeekDroid is at 19% on mine and its only been installed for half the battery history!
