What are the best settings for overclocking an amd 3000+ winchester on an abit av8 board? I would like to reach 2.5 ghz (have watercooling) or higher. I was thinking that setting my HTT down to 800 and running the ram at pc 3100 with tight timmings (2-2-2) would be good had have very little impact if i had HTT at 1000 and ram at pc 3200...... would this be correct?

yeah, i wouldnt think that there would be a big difference between the two. keep in mind that MHz have a MUCH greater impact on memory performance than timings do.
cheers,

Z- I don't mean to be rude, but you're wrong in your assertion. On A64 Timings are king. TBH, neither of them makes a drastic difference in apps, but timings matter more than MHz speed in A64 memory. Check out Zebo's excellent post on the effects of memory speed (MHz) on Athlon64.

I have the setup in question, and I am using Corsair Value Ram (won't run 1T :( ) and setting it @ 333 5:6 divider. I lowered my LDT (HTT) speed to 4x (800) and have a nice stable 2.4 with more headroom if I want it. With this setup, my PC3200 is running at 221 MHz at 2.5-3-3-10. I am actually considering going to another multiplier to tighten the timings up a little more in light of recent developments.
