I just got a PS3 and HDTV and would like to hear some favorites.

Transformers, Oh wait, that's on HDDVD..... sorry.
I will not know for a long time. I'm not diving into the deep Blu (even though I'm an excellent swimmer) because I think it has the same fate as HDDVD soon.

I'll wait 2-3 generations more before I choose.... AGAIN! I have a deep wallet, but BluRay is treading Ice like Scooby Doo for me right now.
 
For those of you who like Kingdom of Heaven, shell out the extra for the Director's cut. Adds close to an hour to the movie and makes the story about 8x better IMO (ie: Baelian doesn't just magically obtain expertise in siege warfare. Turns out he was a veteran of previous wars)

huh? The competition just kicked the bucket. What is going to beat it any time soon? Certainly not a new, higher resolution format - TVs don't even go higher yet. Downloadable content? Not even close to being ready for the mainstream. At this point, it's pretty clear that Blu Ray is here to stay for some years to come.

The last news I heard was that BluRay player sales (minus PS3) fell 40% and is nailing it's own coffin shut.


 
All 3 of the Pirates movies look amazing, as does Planet Earth (highly recommended.. seriously, just buy it, like.. right now), any of the Pixar movies (Ratatouille, Cars, etc), are probably the highest quality ones I have seen so far. The new Rambo movie looks good, and is a badass movie to boot.

There is no other option on Blu-ray.

Although if someone is considering the DVD version...then your comments would apply.
 
Actually regular DVD's may yet prove to be BD's undoing unless they reduce the price of movies by half ... most people buy their movies in retail stores like BB & last time I looked the average regular price for a BD there was roughly $30.

I have a PS3 myself & even so the only time I'll even consider buying a movie on Blu-ray is when theres a very good sale.



And on-topic, The Fifth Element is supposed to have very good IQ.

The current Blu-ray players are basically crap except for the PS3. It seems to be selling well since HD-DVD died. Blu-ray is not going to magically dominate sales instantly. It's going to take quite a few years for the market to shift from DVD to Blu-ray, especially with our economic slow down right now. If everyone had FiOS, then maybe HD content over the internet could take over, but like you say, that's not going to happen with the way ISPs are hoping it will.

It's not that players are crap, I'm quite happy with my Panny. It's bluray playback is better than the PS3, and it's load times are almost equal to it. However, you can't beat the price of the PS3, especially when you factor in the fact that it's a 2.0 profile player.

btw, that movie was entirely inaccurate. I wouldnt bother getting any director's cut to see more inaccuracy.

Because we ALWAYS watch movies for their accuracy.

In relation to other movies...KoH is fairly accurate. As usual, the hero's character is largely fiction. However, the events that are depicted did actually occur.

I recommend you don't watch any movies based on a true story....their often only loosely tied to the story. Ya know, can't watch that.

To each his own. There are plenty of movies made based on True stories that are Much Much more accurate than KoH was. KoH was not even close. Not sure how you mean that KoH was fairly accurate, but if you mean there was a battle and some of the names of the main characters were around that time then yes they are fairly accurate in that manner, but everything else was wayyy off.

I certainly dont mind a little inaccuracy, but when you are completely off like KoH was, then that bothers me. Reminds me of the beginning of Anchorman where it states "Based on a true story, only peoples names, dates and events have been changed"

But anyway, I aplogize for thread jacking. I will second Fifth element and the pirate movies for very nice quality.
 
I picked up Troy this past weekend and it looks really nice IMO. Haven't seen it in a long time and forgot a lot of the action.
