Just a few questions:

What kind of battery life are you looking for?
Do you want/need an integrated optical drive?
Is there a minimum screen size you are looking for?

From what I understand that apple is the best option right now in terms of reliability, long batery life, and overall higher long term value.
As for windows apps on mac. They will not work but you can find most app in a mac version. To name a few photoshop, ms office, IE.

i am not really looking at the MAC side of the house

i do coding from time to time in VC++ so MAC is out of the question,

anyone have any experience with viao v505 series?

i have an inspiron 8500 now and i find myself not using its multimedia feature and wanting more battery life and a lighter laptop in general
