I'm in the market for a new LCD. I see there are plenty of fast response time ones out, but i remember reading awhile back that they tend to have worse color reproduction.

This is the main thing I'm looking for in my next monitor, very good color reproduction.

so..

What are the best LCD monitor(s) for Color Reproduction?

much thanks :)

You may want to consider this 17" Samsung 710N-BK. It has been one of NewEgg's most popular 17" LCD's. Out of 331 reviews it is rated 5/5 eggs. I know of someone who just purchased one for himself based on his having had experience with it. NewEgg had a great offer going on this monitor. They were offering a $30 INSTANT rebate coupled with a $20 MIR by Samsung bringing the total delivered price to just $215 (after rebates). Unfortunately THAT sweet deal has ended for now.

Read around; If you are interested in this one search (or wait) for another bargain price to appear.

Basically any 8-bit panels would do

If you are going for best colour reproduction, go for S-IPS panels. LCDs which use this panel however, is usually on the large side, e.g. 21" +

Anandtech had been recommending Dell's 2001FP, 1905FP, 2005FPW for the 8-bit panels
There are many happy dell monitor users around here. They are truely superb monitors

lotta votes for the dells.

which ones are the 8 bits? are all ultrasharps 8 bit?

can anyone explain the main differences between SIPS and PVA? i just finished reading the review on the HP L2335. sounds like a great monitor but too rich for my blood. $500 would be close to my maximum budget.

thanks again. :)

The 20" Apple and the Dell 2005FPW use the same panel. The Dell edges it out by a tad in performance and it gets the nod in price.

Either monitor would be a fantastic choice.

If you don't want to go Dell or Apple then look at:

ViewSonic VP191b
Eizo L778

Stay away from the BenQ FP1V+.

I would want the specifications to say , "16.7m colors" or "8-bit color" as this would indicate an 8-bit LCD. If it says "16.2m colors or "over 16m colors", I would take it to mean these are 6-bit LCD's. Even when you do find one that claims 16.7m colors, do the research to be sure of what you are getting. An 8-bit LCD at 16-20ms response time would be a good choice. Faster RT would be ok if it is certian to be an 8-bit panel. Take a look at the Samsung 193P, I've read good things about it, however, it is not cheap.

Edit: The 193P can be found for about $400 after a $200 rebate. There is a new model, the 193P+ (8ms RT & 16.7m colors) but these are currently in the $550 range. I wish I had $600 burning a hole in my pocket!
