The general opinion in the Tv industry is that Panasonic's Plasma's provide the best Picture with Samsung in a close second.

Everyone else sits below them.

I own a Samsung PN64E8000

64 inch model and sit about 9 feet from it.

I get it. But the plasma scene is changing on a daily basis. Panasonic now out of the picture and Samsung going away is really narrowing consumer options. The Samsung 8500 is the best plasma to date including the last generation Kuro. The Samsung 5300 and LG 6600 blows away any LCD/LED under $1500. Both 60" models can be had for under $700 if you buy at the right time.

Yes sadly if you own a High end plasma tv you will have to wait for OLED to drop in price going LCD/LED is a downgrade and I don't think 4k will make up for the difference. By the time we have more content in 4k the OLED scene should be stable and affordable.

And I totally agree with your choices I would pickup both of those in a heartbeat over some of the LCD/LED options i've seen.
