Best LCD for a Web/Graphic Designer?

I don't know anything about LCD's and their attributes, but I'd like to get one. Can anyone recommend an LCD with good color reproduction? Gaming takes a big back seat here, I have a Samsung 955DF for that--but it's absolutely awful for graphic design.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Well, let's try to keep the options in the SUB-$700 range 😉

But I would LLLOOOOOOOOOOVE a cinema display.

I would look for an LCD of a response time less than 20MS, most 25ms LCD's are just plain suck (they are fine for web browsing tho) for watching video/gaming. At the $700 level you should be able to get a BenQ 19inch LCD that is 12ms, check out newegg for the latest pricing. ANother good brand of LCDs to go with are Samsung 16/12ms LCDs (pretty top notch quality if you have seen instore displays).

Yeah I was actually looking at the Samsung 172X as it had great Newegg reviews, but the review on Anandtech suggests it might have bad color reproduction. Oh well

Disagree, for gaming use something less than 20ms. For graphic designing, you're looking for color output. I agree with Kingofcomputer on the EIZO; however, it IS double the cost so you're probably better off waiting for your company to buy it for you, or wait another year (or whenever you save up another $700) to buy it.

If you can wait for about another $100, the Samsung 193P boasts great color quality while still having a decent response time (20ms) for 3d animation programs like Maya, 3d Max, Lightwave, etc...

so far all the 12ms response time lcds I've seen 17" and 19" don't have very good contrast ratio and/or color reproduction.
best to stick with a 16 or 20ms.
I use a 25ms panel and its fine for me, even while gaming, Its kinda subjective.,

Color reproduction on the eizo lcds are ecellent, buyt I havent heard very good things about response time even though their 20" is rated at 20ms.
I was tempted to buy the 20" 20ms, but at how expensive they are, with so little information, I couldnt bring myself to do it.

For your purposes, Color reproduction is first while pixel response is second. Many of the 16ms panels, if not all, have much less colors and interpolated 16M colors, while most if not all 25ms panels have 16.8M true colors. I have been using the Samsung 213T for over a year and have been really happy with it. It does well with the occasional game. I am sure the Samsung 193P should suit your purposes mighty fine - unless you want to stick to the CRT route and get a Nec/Mish. 22" CRT.
