Gateway M505, IBM Tpad t41p, Dell Inspiron 8600.
They arent super heavy, nor are they super light.
They can play games well and still be semi-light.

Why is the T41p in the ranks of the Dell 8600?! :Q

The eMachines M6805\6807 are VERY quick (A64 3000+, Mobility 9600) and relatively light for a DTR (~6-7 lbs), 1.3" thick (but pretty wide because if the 15.4" widescreen), and can handle any game out right now (and future games, mine runs the leaked Doom III alpha decently, no idea or care about HL2).

He didn't say a thing about build quality :D.
If you strip away the quality barrier, you will see that they are near equal.

yeah 15 inch screens are a bit to big....i wanted to stay with the 12" but at most 14"

my friend has a t40 it can run CoD okay but hopefully there'll be a lightweight with a 9600mobility

I second the 600m choice. It's around ~5.4 lb's and has a decent graphics card if you make sure and choose 64MB 9000 Mobility. Don't skimp on the LCD screen either as you can't upgrade that at all. You can change out the hard drive and memory if you are willing.

THis looks very promising

This is probably exactly what you're looking for (since you didn't mention price)

Some of these look good on paper, but im not sure how reliable Cyberpower is

http://www.cyberpowerinc.com/notebook.asp#m3

Probably the cheapest bang for the buck is here

http://www.ibuypower.com/mall/notebook.asp

Here's one that does't include the M-radeon 9600

http://www.velocitymicro.com/wizard.php?iid=17

All of these are pretty much Pentium M based and most have the radeon 9600 with 64 megs of ram. Should be able to play all current games. ANd all are around 6 pounds or so.

NOw i just have to decide which one to get

I have a new laptop here from Aopen I got from internetishop.com..as recommended by Bargainseeker. It has 15" of lcd, centrino (Modifiable up to 2 ghz i think..mine is 1.4 though)..512 ram, 40 gb 5200 rpm hd (you can change for 7200 rpm 60 gb), ATI RADEON 9600 Mobility (This is the best part..) and of course cd-rw/dvd combo drive, and also media card reader..come in with 11b internet. I am using it right now and loving it. Mine cost $1350 (with the shipping cost), and if you're getting one of these, I recommend you call them so you can modify the hardware. They are very friendly and the customer service is great!..Oh one more thing, you'll get a carrying case for free too ! :)

i guess its not possible for the 9600 to fit in chassis that are <15"
if there was a 14" one i'd love it....my current notebook is so tiny...i can fit like 3 of these into the d600

Couldn't agree more... I looked at the 8600 because it actually looked cheaper as it comes with a 9600.... Still, the case is just so ugly that I'd be embarrassed to carry it around. Sure it looks like the best option in order to get the 9600, but maybe I'll just go without. Yes I do care what it looks like... I mean it's a notebook... I can handle an ass ugly desktop (which I have) as long as it motors where it needs to... but a notebook has to go aroiund with me to client meetings, out for gaming... nah... I'll wait till 9600 is cheap enough that someone with some design sense can drop it in a case that doesn't look like a toy.
