Hello,

I am planninig on creating a custom laptop designed specifically for gaming. You know, top of the line specs while at the same time not being too over-priced.

Word on the street is that Alienware is legit but you are basically paying for the name... I hear that you can get the same, if not better, for cheaper.

Thank you ahead of time for reading my post and replying!

Sincerely, Hpan.

You should get :

16GB Ram, Striped Raid 240GB Vertex 3s, i7-2920XM, Radeon 6970M :)

but it would be stupidly expensive.

I recommend a desktop for gaming because you can get more powerful hardware at the same price as a laptop, unless you need portability. You can't upgrade the CPU in a laptop and you can't add a faster graphics card in a laptop, so when you laptops graphics card and CPU become too slow with future games, you have to buy a new laptop or desktop.

You can change the CPU and the GPU in some laptops these days, i know the Nvidia cards these days come in MXM socket (board?) and can be changed out. As long as you are using a similar CPU with the same TDP you can sometimes change the CPU in the laptop as well.

To Mnewsham.

What is a great graphics card that I should look into getting? Pref. one that I can upgrade in the future.

And CPU?

That is only partially true. Some are and some aren't, plus I think the MXM socket/card is standardized but the GPU cooler may not be. Also, where the heck are you going to find a replacement card to buy?

Minor details :p

If you go to a replacement part shop for some of the gaming laptops you can usually buy GPU or CPU for the laptop (it'll cost an arm and a leg however)

Thanks a lot man! You practically built the computer for me! Is there some kind of kudos system on here or something?

By the way, the mods should move this thread to the appropriate topic. It's definitely not in "CPUs and Overclocking".

I thought about that myself but it looks as if it is winding down anyway, This could go in general hardware or SFF, Notbooks, pre-built/Barbones PCs.
