best kitchen knives?

what is the best brand of kitchen knives. my dad mentioned he wanted a brand with a logo of two figures or people. i don't know what it is. supposedly that is the best brand of knives and the sharpest. any ideas? what other brands are good?

i googled 'henckels', some showed two figures and some show one guy holding a stick. whats the difference?

One guy holding a stick is Henckels International, which is budget-priced crap. The real Henckels stuff is $40+ per knife.

EDIT: I have this set at home.

different groups of the same company: 2 figures is zwilling j.a. henckels. 1 figure with a stick is j.a. henckels international.

After some research, I went with Farberware Pro Forged.

They're definitely not the best out there but they come close at a much lower price.

I think i'll get this this pair for my dad. whats the general consenus on them? good buy? these will be the most expensive knives i've ever purchased.

Pro S is a very nice set of knives. They are expensive, but if cared for properly they should last a long time.

It's tough to buy knives for someone else. One really needs to get a feel for the knife before you buy it.

I have Henkels, Wusthof, and Sabatier. I made my decisions based on the function and how each one felt indivdually.

i think i'm the only one in this thread who owns a 12-knife block set that was $20 at walmart =P

i'm just now learning how to cook, so i bought cheap kitchen utensils so it would be ok if i spoilt any of it.

Wife bought me a $400+ set of Henckles even after I told her not to. The store had to special order the set and she had to promise to buy them when the set came in. I don't cook that well to need them.
