Has this "joke" become some kind of popular thing on the Internet? It would make a good amateur video for some kind of undergraduate class or something.

I read 2 pages of replies...and I don't feel like reading any more after reading the long joke.

Kudos. I liked it. The joke was very well written and was more of a short story with a joke ending than an actual joke. In any case, Bravo!

This thread came up on a random search a couple of months ago and I just had to read it.

A little searching reveals that there are many variations of this story. Some are quite a bit shorter.
