The Hunt for Red October. Harrison Ford was a better Ryan than Alec Baldwin, but THFRO was the best of the movies.

Clear & Present danger: just the right mix of action and politics. Oh, and John Clark and Ding Chavez are there.

Patriot Games is too personal.

Red October is good, but it's a bit slow/suffocating.

Sum of all Fears ain't bad at all. A city gets nuked, how doesn't that sell itself. Only problem is Jack Ryan's a loser, low level here. Oh and Neo-Nazis? Guess no one has problem with dem evil nazis. Can probably mad lib a million stories with that enemy...

I wish Hunt for Red October was available in HD.

I'll vote Clear and Present Danger.

I have seen all of them, I need to see Clear and Present Danger and Patriot Games. But I love HFRO. I also really like Sum of all Fears, and Clark's character is amusing in it. I've always liked Liev Schreiber.
And I really like the Ding Chavez character, but I've only read one book and haven't seen a movie with him in it, so that one book, Rainbow Six, stands as the only time I've encountered Chavez. But I liked him there.

Clear and Present Danger had that scene where Harrison Ford was in that caravan that turns down the alley and gets ambushed right? Man, that scene had my heart pumping.

Eh, none of the movies really do justice to the books, imho. You don't see much of the behind the scenes, non-Ryan related key plot points. In many of the books, Ryan often isn't the key character at all, more of a supporting character.

I'd say, judging from Rainbow Six alone, that could very possibly be true.
As much as I'd love to see a Rainbow Six film adaptation, it would scare me at the same time that it would get butchered. There is a lot to that story.

In the book it was the Japs. Which is one reason why I never bothered to watch the movie.

I think you read the wrong book. It was Muslim extremist terrorists.

He was first introduced as one of the main characters in Clear and Present Danger. He's been a smaller part of the books The Bear and the Dragon (I believe) as well as Debt of Honor if memory serves.

It is on some of the HD movie channels. I think it was either on HDNET or HBO-HD last week. Looked pretty good too.

THFRO hands down. Assflick as Jack Ryan? Please.

The movies are in HD DVD, but were recalled due to a Paramount SNAFU. They will be reissued and the movies will shine in HD.

I'm really surprised that Rainbow 6 didn't get made into a movie. From the get go it was easily one of the most "movie friendly" out of all of Clancy's books. It's a pretty straightforward story line with plenty of action to keep the movie interesting. Plus you could easily cut out most of the fluff and condense it easily to fit into a 90-120 minute flick.

No way...I think Alec Baldwin makes a better Jack Ryan. He's more like the character...or protrays it better. Harrison Ford is too overpowering of a presence, and that just isn't Jack Ryan.
