most definitely oahu if you plan to party, you can go to the north shore of oahu if you want to be around less people.

Oh and snorkling is great on Big Island, and it's free.
We went to a place close to Honolulu that was supposeed to be great. Paid $$ to get in and it $ucked. On the Big Island there were turtles, sharks, corral and all the good stuff for free on a non-crowded beach.

Snorkling is free on Maui too.

I don't know how many times we just pulled over along the side of the road and just jumped into the water. One time we did that, a huge moray eel came out of its hole and followed us. It was pretty scary.

Oahu because they have pipeline, waimea, and sunset beach. These are the best beaches especially this time of year and early next. Best waves!

i vote for the big island (hawaii), personally. just seems less crowded, less developed, and certain beaches are deserted for parts of the day. you'll need a sturdy 4x4 (NEED) or walk a fair amount to get to some of them (probably why they're deserted).

i went to this one beach (i'm not telling you which one 😛) and it was BEAUTIFUL. i had already been to maui, and other parts of the big island, and lemme tell you this was the most stereotypical idyllic tropical beach. clearest water, whitest sand, lots of shade, and not a soul around save for some weird guy in a trailer, 2 net fishermen, and a pack of wild goats. that is the closest to heaven on earth as i have ever come to.

Let me guess, hmmmm.... The green sand beach ?

nope 🙂 the sand was white, remember? 😛

I think I know which one. It's on the Kona side of the Island but a bit more south right. Don't remember the name.

i been there years ago....

Kauai and Maiu!! you can pretty much vist every island if you stay like 2 weeks...

Maui is very nice. I've been 3 times. BUT, it's very laid back. Not exactly a happening party town if that is what you are looking for. Also, it is outrageously expensive. I would recommend a place like Puerta Vallarta, Mexico over Maui.

Well, it all depends on what you want to get out of your vacation. If you want to go to a relaxing island, where things are really laid back, nothing like the states, then I would suggest any island other than Oahu. If you want to go clubbing, experience Waikiki beach, then I'd suggest Oahu. Oahu is not exactly the same as the states but it's the most populated island and it is the most exciting island as far as places to be, things to do, etc. So again, if you want to have a laid back time, get away from the mainland atmosphere and just have a vacation vacation, by all means any island but Oahu 🙂

I went to Maui, Lanai, and Honolulu and I liked Maui the best. The Hana Highway was interesting...

Maui cuz that's where the WOWIE comes from. 😉

Maui's sounding fabulous right now... if I do island-hop to 2 islands, which 2 are the best for:

1) Beautiful beaches, waterfalls, nature-type stuff away from all the crowds, etc.?

2) Clubbing, nightlife, parties, etc.?

I'll try to see if I can work those two in. 🙂

You'll find both number one and number two on Oahu. You'll find the most night-life etc on Oahu.

Dont know about #2, though my guess would be Oahu. For #1 its a definite Kauai. NO doubt about it. It has the most beautiful waterfals. Its the least touristy. The Grand Canyon of the South Pacific is on the island and is absolutly magnificent. The North shore has great beaches. One of them being the beach where they filmed the movie South Pacific at. It is by far the most green and naturally beautiful islands.
