Assuming you copy from the CD-Rom to the CDRW, I'd put them on different ide channels.

Don't put a CD drive on the same channel. It will slow tha hard drive (133) to the CD drive speed (33).

I've had good performance with this setup:
Bus 1: master=HD, slave=burner
Bus 2: master=cdrom

Rarely will you have both devices on bus 1 talking to each other (which is good) except for ISO image burning.

Not sure if that's true anymore. I've heard that most current IDE controllers will do different speed devices on one channel. If that is true, then I'd go with teddymines' suggestion.

That doesn't really matter, considering that the average transfer rate for that HDD is somewhere around 26MB/s, and the maximum is about 36MB/s. ATA133 is only useful for ATA/RAID.

Why don't you just buy an add in IDE controller card like a Promise Ultra100 and set all of your devices up as masters? Assuming of course that you have an open PCI slot. That's what I did, but I also have an IDE DVD drive in the mix.

my HDD is technically ATA133 but my mobo is only ATA100 compatible (and the Epox I ordered is the same way)

what is the approximate cost of an ATA133 controller card? (I have a few open pci slots)

Ahem...unless you plan on having four HDDs in a RAID setup, there's no need for that given the low transfer rates of HDDs.

Yeah, you'll notice no difference going from ATA100 to ATA133. Heck, there's hardly any difference at all from ATA66 to ATA100.
