use front page, interface is lame and I am not a fan of MS, don't like it and ditch it..

I am using netscape composer, which suck anyway

I heard Macromedia dreamweaver/flash is good - but has steep learning curve..

Adobe Go-live is also comparable..

Pls advice..

thanks in advance..

i hear that dreamweaver is the least sloppy of wysiwyg editors, but pure html coding is always preferrable and more efficient (if you know what you're doing).

dream weaver gets my pick. so easy to use, no wonder ins #1!!!!!

holly crap, i cant belive i just said that.

dream weaver can also show the html in a different pane, and it can also split screen it real easily.

Homesite is the best IMO....

Dreamweaver MX is probably the best WYSIWYG on the market today.

I tried Go-Live but I didn't really like it, I guess I was used to Dreamweaver already.

oh, and I still beleive that anyone that uses notepad as a text editor really doesn't know what they're doing.

Wait till you have 7,000 files, and you want to search for any instance of <a href="mylink.html">[ANY TEXT HERE]</a> and replace ANY TEXT with "this file is my file" across all 7,000 files. Have fun with notepad!

AMEN! I love global search and replace!

nobody mentioned vim or xemacs? 😱)

Dreamweaver is pretty cool. Doesn't have too steep of a learning curve if you're a normal geek (kind of a paradox there eh?) Just install it and mess around...

Dreamweaver/flash/fireworks rule. notepad is suggested by people who probably dont do site design & just want to act cool.

One hint, dont listen to anyone who says notepad because its a crappy crappy program for making webpages.

If you want a wysiwyg editor then use Dreamweaver
If you want a text based html editor then use Topstyle
If you want a php editor then use Phped

Agreed. Notepad does suck; there's much better html editors available. Go with Dreamweaver if you need a wysiwyg editor; I think it's the best out there.

Hey Czar, are you using the free version of PHPed or the NuSphere version? I've been checking out the NuSphere version and I like it alot. Installed with the Technology Platform with Apache, MySQL and PHP it's pretty sweet and they've done a nice job of itegrating it. The price is steep though.

Okay. The ONE HTML editor I've found that works for what I need (simplicity, efficiency and speed) is HTML-Kit. Download it, install it. You won't regret it.
