Now that it has been determined that it is difficult to determine the actual core temp the Socket A's is running at, has anyone taken MikeWarrior's revamped relative theory and done a new review of HSFs.

If not what is the best HSF for a 1Ghz Thunderbird! Also, some request on where to find the best price on these would be cool. Thanks!

2cooltek is doing some testing right now. he has pictures of his rig, and he should be doing tests with a 58W Peltier.

I'd Hazard an early guess and say the Hedgehog will still be "best"

As far as best value, I'd say the Taisol CGK742092. Quiet, and fairly low cost from nersdbyte.

Thanks for the reply! I should also add that I am going to be using this workstation for audio production purposes and the quieter the better. That said, if anyone has suggestions on making my system quieter but also cool at the same time, that would be great!

Following is a list of the components I am using in the computer I am putting together:
Antec SX1030B
Abit KT7A-Raid
AMD 1GHZ Thunderbird
512MB PC133 Ram (can't help myself with prices this low)
IBM DESKSTAR 75GXP 45.0 GB (Probably setup on the Abit Raid)

Already have
IBM Ultrastar 9LZX (already own) use for boot?
Matrox G400 Max
Soundblaster Live! Platinum 5.1
2x Mitsubish Diamond Pro 21TX
Adaptec 2940UW
Yamaha 8x4x32x Cdr-rw
Linksys 10/100

This is an upgrade from an LX based system with a PII 300. Any purchasing suggestions concerning the componenets above would be appreciated.

You could also go with an alpha w/ sanyo denki fan. It performs very well, too.

Your system looks killer !

Mike,

Thanks again for your input. Do you know anyplace where I can find the Hedgehog or an alpha w/sanyo denki fan at a decent price. Also, are those their full names, being new to the forum thang I'm not sure when you guys are using abbreviation or not. If these are abbreviated names, please give me the full names or a product number so that I can search for prices and know I am looking at the right fan.

Once again thanks for the advice.

P.S. - How do I set up a rig profile.
P.S.S - I am going to place my rig profile up in the general hardware area, to get advice on setting up the raid, and some other stuff. Look for me there as well if you have special knowledge concerning general setup.

Those are full product names... Hedgehogs can be bought pretty much anywhere... You can get alpha's with sanyo-denki fans from either alpha or plycon.
