Best High-tech college?

I live in S. Utah, all right? And I want to go to a college with a specialization in high technology, preferably close by. (under 500 miles anyway) I know that some of the least heard-of colleges can be some of the best. ex:Utah State University, ranking incredibly high in many areas, including engineering and science. But I want a college that has an emphasis on technology.

Carnegie Mellon is way up there. Can't think of anything more high tech than that other than maybe MIT.
I think that's the right spelling for the name.

Personally I think undergrad is a rip off. I've learned MUCH more so far from books (and talking to people in the industry) than my professors. I'm a sophomore at CMU. (electrical and computer engineering major)

What exactly do you mean by high tech? You won't learn about athlons... you won't learn about firewire... you might learn about a 386 and serial. College teaches the concepts that you need to be able to understand newer stuff when you enter the industry. Or at least, that is the theory.
 
In reality, I doubt I could get into a prestigious university like some of those mentioned in this thread, but I'm giving it a bump so I can subscribe to it, increase my postcount, and hopefully learn more information at the same time. 🙂

BTW, I am considering computer engineering or EE for a major (wouldn't a job from an IT or CS major include stuff like reinstalling MS Windows, fixing the office laser printer, or working under intense deadlines to fix outdated COBOL code? that doesn't sound very appealing to me). 😉

LOL, I thought IT was installing Windows and fixing printers, and CS was programming. Guess that shows my ignorance quite distinctly. Oh well, now I just need to hunt up one of those "what jobs can I get with this major" websites to learn the truth. 🙂

Actually, I was thinking quite seriously about BYU, and am probably going to end up going there. As for the MTV, I don't really care as its probably the dumbest channel I've ever had the misfortune of watching.

If I may ask, why set a 500 mile limit? Hell, i'm travellin over 3k from Helena, MT to Atlanta, Ga. (Definately wasn't expecting a GA Tech acceptance letter)
