Had an Asus, it was terrible. I have no opinion on the gigabyte.

I dun know why some people think Asus is so great, I've had a rather high failure rate with them, in fact i dun have or know of a friend who hasnt had a asus die.

I second the Gigabyte 8KNXP.
I have it and it's a dream.
IDE Raid , Sata, and Intel ICHr5 along with gigabyte Intel Lan that's fast.
Should have won the all around best board, which they said it was in Anand's article on the roundup.
I switched from my long life Abit boards to see what the competition has.
I still like the Abit boards though, but I'm not going to miss it this time.

Gigabyte 8KNXP is what you want

if your big on bigger names, then the Abit IC7

aviod the asus....

The Soltek is a good board for the money too

so I guess its either the ic7-g, p4c800, or 8knxp

so out of those 3 which one is the best (price is not important)

Get yourself a hat, write those 3 mobo names drop them in the hat & pick one, they are pretty evenly matched.

Why avoid the Asus mobo ?

I was wondering the same thing too, maybe he shouldnt even reply since he's a AMDHardcoreFan and this is about a P4 mobo thread.

My Asus P4 mobo runs great,I would recommend it to anyone (P4P800).

The July issue of Computer Power User magazine ran a review with benchmarks of the latest (P4) mobos.
Asus came out tops followed closely by Abit. I went with the Abit IC7-G and have been quite happy with it.
It's a great O'clocking mobo and comes with the features I want including rounded ATA cables and an SATA adaptor which lets you connect an IDE drive to one of the four SATA ports on the mobo. I liked it so much I sent away for a second adaptor for my "D" drive.

There is no absolute "best." But the "high-end" P4 mobos are based on the 875 chipset.

I also highly recommend the Zalman CNPS7000-AlCu HSF, it is extremely quiet and cools great.
MY 2.6 GHz P4c is overclocked to almost 3.3 GHz and is presently running at 42c.

i've had 3 ASUS boards, all of which performed flawlessly, in addition to never dying on me. you have to remember that just as many people, if not more, are in the same boat i am, and have never experienced a problem w/ an ASUS board. i'm sorry you've a a bad experience with them, but this is why so many people think of ASUS as a great board maker.

i had the same problem with Klipsch Promedia speakers...everyone praises Klipsch for having the best computer speakers on the market, however i've had nothing but problems with them. after my third set of replacements failed, i just gave up on Klipsch and got different speakers, yet so many people still love them probably b/c they never experienced the problem i did.

anyways, i would recommend the Abit IS7-G or the IC7 max3.

ABIT IC7-G (or just IC7 if you have no need for Ethernet). Just make sure to get some good memory (PC3500 or higher) as it is known to have some issues with memory compatibility. You might try looking through the ABIT forums... although there is no magic memory module that works every time, it seems people tend to have more problems with some brands than others.
