Best healthy snack (that doesn't taste like cardboard)

In an effort to lose some weight, I figure I'll try eating a lighter lunch than I usually do, but complement it with a late afternoon snack an hour or two before I head to the gym after work.

Any recommendations for a good snack to have that I'll still enjoy eating?

Yeah, fruit is always good, but doesn't really have much substance to fill me, tho' I will have it occasionally as a snack. I'm looking moreso for namebrand protein bars or granola bars, or something along those lines.

bacon!... eeer.. or a protien bar of some sort.
as gistech said, nature valley bars are pretty good.

Most "protein bars" out there are "energy bars" with lots of sugar. But the EAS Carb Control bars are an exception. I could eat the Apple Cobbler ones all day.

Maybe the energy bars you find in supermarkets and such, but protein bars you'd find on fitness nutrition websites are generally much better, very low fat/carbs. Be careful though, some of the cheaper protein bars taste like ass. I got a 12pack of these ones that tasted exactly like bowling alleys smell :disgust:. So much for getting a deal heh.. I hear Pure Protein brand is good, but I generally stick to the shakes as they're cheaper anyway.

I never knew almonds could be so beneficial.

Me either. I'm going to go buy a bag of almonds for snacks... just have to resist any that are embedded in chocolate 🙂

AFAIK though, almonds still have a high fat content, even though they are healthy for you.

Also, the Atkins Advantage Bars are good. I mostly like the chocolate peanut butter ones though. 19g protein, 2g carbs, and only 1g sugar. The downside? 12g fat. I also like the chocolate delightful shakes. 20g protein, 2g carbs, 1g sugar....but again, 9g fat.

But dark chocolate is supposed to good for your heart I think!! Hey, work with me on this... 🙂

Yeah the thing about most of the protein products though is that they are expensive. It sucks to shell out $6 for a protein shake mix that tastes bad.
