Best headphones for gaming?

I play Counter-Strike: Source quite a bit, and I'm looking for a good pair of gaming headphones. I'm looking to spend up to 75$, but I'm not sure what to get. If you aren't familiar with Counter-Strike, sound is VERY important. I need to be able to hear slight sounds when people take a step, and I need to know exactly what direction it came from.

So, I was thinking about getting 5.1 surround sound headphones, but that doesn't narrow down my search much. The Sennheiser PC150's look nice for about 50$ but I want the cream of the crop. Any suggestions?

Plus it has 3D binaural sound which works pretty nice for cs.

I used to have a 3D soundcard which was pretty freakn nice to use in cs.

Sk has there own pc160 Version, I have seen players use cheap $10 Headphones and Plantronics .90s. I don?t remember which team 3D player uses HD 497s but its pretty much personal preference.

A lot of them buy the Icemat Siberia headset, really good for lans and stuff, awesome headset becuz its really comfortable and can wear it for a really long time and wont notice its on you. I would get the Icemat siberia, its at newegg right now for 69 bucks i think.

The Icemat siberia is pretty nice for gaming aswell, I personally didn?t like it as much as my pc160.

Cant go wrong with either

Did he mean the pc155s ?

I got the Plantronics audio-90, but I am definately not an audio junkie. I think they cost $25. I do ok in CS:S (it is definately not the sound that is limiting me 😉). I have heard great things about the Sennheiser 150s and 160s, if you really need that kind of quality.

Wait, does the PC160 go all the way around your ear? Does it go over your whole entire ear? If it does, then im buying it. I look at specs but cant seem to anywhere it says that it goes around your whole ear.

You don't want the cream of the crop, trust me. Very few of us can afford the best headphones out there.. those that can would probably rather buy a new high-end computer's worth of parts instead.

But you probably DO want something nice. The HD555 is a great all-around headphone for gamers: it probably sounds better than anything most of you have heard, it positions sounds about as well as reasonably priced headphones can, it's comfortable and circumaural (the pads surround your ears), it can be driven straight out of a sound card's line out, and it's quite reasonably priced for a hi-fi headphone. You can acquire a new pair for $100-120, and I'd say it's worth the cash.

But that IS a little out of your budget range, and there are still good choices below that. The Sennheiser HD497 is a good all-around headphone, the Sennheiser PX100 is hard to go wrong with if you want portability, the HD515 is a decent alternative to the HD555 if you want something circumaural. I'm recommending all Sennheisers mainly because you sound like you're only really planning to use them for games, and so I don't need to give you a long obnoxious lecture on the subjectivity of sound quality.

If you really want a mic integrated into the headphones (in other words, if you want a headset, not headphones), the Sennheiser PC150 and PC160 are both pretty good for what they are. I'd say that you'd be better off with a clip-on or table-mount mic, but that's just me.

Pro gamers can use whatever they want. Once you get used to the way any halfway decent headphone images, it might as well be as be the best headphone out there for games. Noise isolation is good if you have a loud computer or loud neighbors, but beyond that games just aren't very demanding. If you want to use them for music, that's something else, but I don't know if you do.

why is that? i am a poor college student and still using hd-650/ppx3. i would NEVER trade my rig for any super computer. music >> FPS for me.

He said that because cream of the crop headphones cost THOUSANDS of dollars and not many people realize that. The vast majority of people on this forum me included would much rather have a top of the line PC then one pair of professional headsets.

Here you go. If price means nothing to you try these headphones on for size, they retail for about 5 thousand. For 4-5 Grand I'd rather have an uber new gaming rig and a pair of 150 dollar headphones instead 🙂

The seinheisser pc1xx series does not go around your ear. I have the PC150 and the design seem kind of silly to me. That icemat set on newegg looks pretty sweet, as far as comfort goes, the seperated support/wires like the icemat has is the best imo. The seinheisser 150's I have bother my ears and the spot they rest on my head after an hour or so.

why settle with R-10, you could always go with orpheus 😛
hd650 is cream of the crop as far as "consumer grade" goes and doesnt cost a thousand with a very decent amp. realistically, it does cost you a fortune. but what irks me is "those who can would probably rather buy a new high-end computer". if one knows enough about good headphone rig, he would be a damned fool to give it up for some pansy FPS game 😛

I got Zalman 5.1 Surround Sound Headphones, the stereo quality is not great but the surround sound is freakin fantastic, using them to play CS:S or even DVD music and movies with 5.1 surround sound is quite amazing.

Mind you these are not ment to be like real 5.1 speaker setup, but the positional audio is MUCH better than any stereo speaker I have used.

Cream of the crop as far as "consumer grade" goes isn't really cream of the crop.

I'd rather have an HE90/HEV90 (or HE60+somethingelse) than a high-end computer, but do you REALLY think most people on these forums agree with us? If so, run a poll. The results would surprise you.

I'd also rather have a $8k speaker rig than an HE90/HEV90. I'd take a similarly priced used car, too. Most of us DO have better things to spend our money on.

Ok ok, so I don't want the "cream of the crop". I want the best I can get for about 60-80 bucks. 😛

I'm leaning towards the PC160s. Mostly because it's got a mic already on the headset so I won't need to spend another 30 bucks for one.

All these don't appear to have mics on them. If you are playing CS how do you plan on talking? With a separate mic?
