Best HD & CD IDE setup

Hi all,

I just got done completing my first build and everything has gone pretty well.

I am currently running a dual boot XP/98se system with:

EPOX 8kHA+
AMD 1600 XP+ w/ retail HSF
Maxtor 60 gb 7200 HD - partitioned 10gb 98se/10gb xp/40gb video fat32
10 gb 5400 storage drive fat32
plextor 8/4/32
Aopen 56x cdrom

My problem arose trying to do a cd to cd copy. I currently have the cdrom and burner on the same ide channel with the burner as master. The 2 HD's are on the same channel with the 60gb drive as master. The first try with adaptec cd creator made it through the TOC but then the buffer underran and a coaster resulted. Next I checked the CD drives and saw that DMA was not enabled. I enabled them and re-did the copy. I made it quite a bit further but ended up with another coaster.

I had the ide channels set up like this before but never did a cd-cd copy because the cdrom was too slow.

Should I put the burner on the ata100 ide with my 60gb HD and the cdrom on the ata33 ide with the storage drive? What would be the best setup for doing cd to cd copy? I dont do a lot of copying but it would make it a lot faster with only an 8x write speed.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply ...

One question though: With a mid-tower case(Evercase 4252) that mounts the HD's at the bottom, are there IDE cables that will span from the MB to the bottom of the case and then back up? Or do most people mount the HD's in the empty 5.25/3.5 bays? Seems like a 24" cable might work but this does not apear to be recommended for ATA100+.

Just wondering ...
