Just curious what everybody thinks.

Please don't base it on the MODELS -- each texture can be changed and modified for any game. Thus I've heard a lot about Doom3 having 'plasticy' models -- this is based on the texture they use, not the ENGINE.

I'm talking about particle effects, physics, perspective, lighting, shadowing, etc.

I will throw my vote in for the Doom3 engine, because while it wasn't as pretty as the Source engine, nor were the physics as good (hell -- Source used a 3rd party physics engine anyway -- Havok), the lighting and shadowing are amazing. Source is great though, because it doesn't take a beast of a machine to run, and it scales up and down very, very well.

What do you think?

If the Serious Sam 2 engine has anything on the Serious Sam engine of it's day, that's my vote. That game ran perfect on a high end rig and just as good on a low end rig.

I was going to do a poll, but unfortunately I don't know the names of all the different engines and I don't want to rule anything out.

I've thrown my hat in for the Doom3 engine on many occasions. No matter how boring the game played, the graphics were still standing out on their own.
