Just to drop in this thread I'll leave something I found :

At techbargains.com they have a link that will activate a rebate + coupon code to get a 1GB 7850 for $99.99 :)

At that price, I think it'd be insane to spend more. That card will eat 1440x900, 1600x900, 1680x1050 alive, and even do well at 1080p in most titles.

"Newegg has the PowerColor AX7850 1GBD5-DH AMD Radeon HD 7850 1GB GDDR5 HDCP PCI-E Video Card for a low $99.99 Free Shipping rebate and Coupon Code: "AFFW85VGA" (Exp SOon). Tax in CA, NJ, TN. This is $30 less than elsewhere and the lowest price we've seen. [Compare Prices]"
yeah that is the best deal going on by far. the 1gb might be an issue later if games go higher res textures as that can eat up vram no matter what screen resolution. I guess worst case is in the future he might not be able to run a setting or two that eats vram. other than that I cant see 1gb being an issue at a silly low 1440x900 while the card is still relevant.

That's my thinking. It will be a beast at 1440x900, and perhaps if he keeps that display for a year, he can wait on the next 'steal' of a card to go up to 1080p. Who knows, might be a 2GB 9850 or something like that for $149 by this time next year.

All I know is that $99 for that card will do absolutely everything OP wants at 1440x900 and more. I have one in my HTPC, and it plays things even at 1080p nicely if I am sane with settings. BF3 64P for example, basically everything on high except for AA backed down a tad and shadows on medium. Plays like a champ.

I also have an i5 2500K overclocked to 4.5GHz. I put it at 5GHz for demanding games like Crysis3, FarCry3 and Battlefield 3. Can you overclock your CPU? It'll do 4.5GHz without a sweat. My idle voltage is 1.275 and 1.34v full-load. At 5GHz its 1.45v idle and 1.5v full-load.

I'd grab a GTX 760 4GB over the 2GB model even though your resolution only requires 1GB.

You will upgrade your monitor to a 27" 1920x1080 (minimum) in the future. They can be had for under $300. This is where 4GB comes in and you'll be able to crank everything right up with AA.

I have a 22"Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW which maxes out at 1680x1050 and having 2 GTX 760 4GB SLI makes a difference even at this 'low' resolution.
