i was just thinking because my current mobo is h67 chipset and thus it will not OC but my procy do support oc.

Not worth the expense as you have a very capable CPU already and i think som H67 does allow OCing if you have a K series chip

You don't need to overclock your CPU for any Video Card, in my opinion.

If you want to max out all the titles go for a GTX660, will be better.
Want to be some future proof go GTX 760(is a awesome buy).

I play here at 1440x900too. I can max out everything here.

don't you think it will be a overkill?

Yes today it is overkill, but a year later it probably wont be..! If he got the money i think its the best choice, someday he'll probably want to get a new monitor and move to FullHD and the card wont be that good as a single gpu then.

EDIT: He also gets a 3 year warranty and the ACX Cooler has ball bearing on the fans so it will last years! A card that lasts for years and offers very good performance even at 1080p is a good buy, you know then that you won't need to upgrade for 2 or 3 years and he'll be covered those years by evga warranty, best warranty support out there!

GTX 670.

The only thing I can't play with it is Crysis 3 on 1920x1080(med fps 37 but low FPS go under 30).

i think i will not go with 760gtx as people having 1920x1080 resolution is also buying gtx 760 so i will be playing at 1440x900 and 7870hd will be enough.

Thats a good card, you'll be fine, pick whatever you prefer, its your money :)
The gigabyte windforce 7870 is the one i'd go with.

Pay attention to this important information:

-First The PCB of the 7870 is long so check your clearance inside the case (about 10.4 inches long)
-The GPU Requieres 2x6 Pin 12v PCIE Connection.
As far as i know it only requieres a PSU capable to deliver about 450-500w.
Double check if your PSU comes with the cables you need. Yours probably comes only with 1x6+2 Pin PCIE cable. The Graphics card at least the Gigabyte includes a Molex adapter that replace the missing cable.

Yeah, an HD 7870 can be had for $190 without even bothering with a rebate. For sub-$200 you can get a very capable card that will give you some options down the road should you choose a larger monitor. If you don't get a larger monitor right away you haven't spent a pile on something that's being held back by 1440x900.

check the solidsnake advices above too...

as i do need a new psu as well can u suggest which one to go with?

really... I use an 400W psu with GTX670 with molex adapters(that would not be the ideal here but works ok)

95% of time you game the power comsumption of the card will be the average power consumption. I will not fear to put a GTX680/7970 on a 400w(real) psu. Most time you play with an 7870 you will draw(not from the wall but from the 12v rail of your PSU) an average of 110-120 watts. This plus an i7/i5 plus HDD+mobo+ram will never exceed 300w an any situation. Putting a 7970(hypothetically) vs a 7870 will increase 50w for average and 80w for typical stressed gaming(not counting furmark). Even on furmark an 400w PSU that can provide significant amperages on 12v rails will hold the basic i7/7970 configuration. Add more 55w average and more 80w stressed for a GTX Titan. Really, for basic system configurations with awesome gaming cards you don't have to get monstrous PSUs.

More one thing: with my 7770 i could not max out Tomb Raider, Crysis 3 and Metro.... if you want to get all the eye candy the games can show I recommend you at least a GTX 660(or better, the Windforce HD 7870).

I have an HD6850 and a 1440x900 monitor. I am very happy with the monitor, and the video card is almost fast enough to play anything I want on it. If I had an HD7850 2GB I would be very happy. I think you may be in the same boat I am, OP.

Just to drop in this thread I'll leave something I found :

At techbargains.com they have a link that will activate a rebate + coupon code to get a 1GB 7850 for $99.99 :)

At that price, I think it'd be insane to spend more. That card will eat 1440x900, 1600x900, 1680x1050 alive, and even do well at 1080p in most titles.

"Newegg has the PowerColor AX7850 1GBD5-DH AMD Radeon HD 7850 1GB GDDR5 HDCP PCI-E Video Card for a low $99.99 Free Shipping rebate and Coupon Code: "AFFW85VGA" (Exp SOon). Tax in CA, NJ, TN. This is $30 less than elsewhere and the lowest price we've seen. [Compare Prices]"
