yep, 6600GT will work great at 800x600... although if you ask me 800* is horrid.

6600 dose fine at 800x600 iin doom 3, colin mcrae, but will struggle with fear or say bf2.
6600gt on the other hand is a good choice.

it's an old msi via 6390 mbd with an athlon 1ghz cpu (dinosaur!) with 1x dvd rom and 1x 7200rpm hdd connected.

I want the doom's and the driving games on it which is why i want the high end graphics, if the mbd turns out to be so badly paired for performance I'm planning to put it in some sort of shuttle, or just get a new suitable uATX mbd.

it's my "living room" player (divx, dvd and mp3 so far - and works v nicely:)). I have a bare mbd hooked up to an amplifier, which looks quite cool :)

I disagree with what's posted here. (that's never happened, has it? ;) )

I think you should shoot for a 6800GT. You want high AA/AF at 8X6, and I have to wonder if on upcoming games like Unreal 3 or UT2007 you're goign to be able to run any AA/AF, even at 8X6.

To me the 6800GT would be a more future proof card for you, and deliver higher settings you'll need to smooth out the 8X6.

Cool rig- I've thought of buying a 10X7 projector many times, imagine I will someday.

good stuff

i thought about 6800....but some benchmarks from tech sites suggested £$ for £$ that the 6600 wouldprobably be acceptable... and it's 800x600 max so im also thinking that the extra £50 over £100 on a 6600GT to a 6800 might not really be worth it

i'd totally recommend a projector....it was either £300 for a 32 inch tv for me, or £500 on a 3 metre wall image :D had some awsome cinema nights so far :D

Still, I don't think that 6800GT is really worth the price, plus you don't need it at the moment. And by the time it gets to the future, there will be new mid-range cards out anyway.

My Optoma does 1024x768, & Rollo, they are so worth it! :D

I don't play much for games on it unfortunately, since my apartment is too small to set it up easily for that, but for movies, TV, etc., they are simply fantastic :)
