I used to use Klipsch Pro-media 2.1 speakers but I can no longer really use these as my neighbor complains every time I use my speakers. I've been using a pair of $50 Sennheisers for some time now which are OK but I'd like to get something much better. I'm going to be using these for everything. I'm not a huge audiophile and don't listen to a huge amount of music so I don't need anything amazing but I certainly do appreciate good quality audio. I'll be using them for a combination of movie watching, gaming and some music. What would you recommend. I've been thinking of Sennheiser 555s which my father has and I like. Or on the high end of the budget maybe something like Beyerdynamic 770s?

Ohh and I can get a deal through where I work, NCIX.

Denon AH-D2000. I got mine in December for less than $250. I think they're excellent for pretty much anything you throw at them, and they don't require an amp (though it does help some).

A pair of Grado headphones are pretty damn nice. They do require some break-in to get comfortable though.

This is just my opinion, but I find Grados headphones in general to be too harsh. They also don't seem to be as suited for general use as the D2000s. Not nearly as comfortable as the Denons, either.

Grados are generally good for Rock... and nothing else. Beyerdynamic and Sennheiser are better brands for "general purpose" cans. It would really help if you posted what genres of music you listen to and where you are going to be listening.

Check out the www.head-fi.org forums. they will probably be able to give you plenty of recommendations for you to purchase.

I got the Grado 325's (the wifey doesn't know how much they actually cost :whiste:). Again, they take some break-in to get comfortable but they're really nice. I think they're all around great cans and good for most uses. Haven't tried the Denon AH-D2000 so can't compare them.
