I have heard not to buy an LCD to game. The refresh rates are not good enough yet, although one that Dell sells is close.

I have a NEC 1760V (same as the NEC 1760NX but without DVI); it's a 17" LCD with a 16ms response time. I don't detect any ghosting when I'm playing first-person shooters, so it's not bad for ~$400

I heard someone say........He think he said........... I am trying not to say this directly at you but everyone. If dont know what your talking about dont say anything.

Ok.. well you can STFU now. I know what I read Mr. Ass. Excuse me for not having time to test everything and have not having an enormous amount of $$$ to buy all the parts required to have what you call an opinion. Oh wait I know that's what reviews are for. Hmmm... maybe that's where I got it from. I do know what I am talking about, and while you jump on me for not posting an "intelligent" response why don't you take your own advice and only post what is relevent.

I have a samsung 191T here... works great... 25ms pix response. There is SLIGHT ghosting in dark places... and when I say slight... you dont' notice it unless you are looking for it. I can only notice it when I have my bro play and I look at the screan and pay attention. Honestly, the benifits of LCDs outweigh any slight ghosting probs. There are a few very nice LCDs for gaming w/ 16ms pix response... a few of the new ones are viewsonic including a 20incher... also there is a toms hardware review from a while ago w/ just "gaming" LCDs... hope this helps...

It wouldnt be a TFT discussion without someone mentioning the Hitachi CML174SX. Over a year old, but still a very good gaming TFT. And can be found quite cheap (compared to what it used to be) now.

Hitachi 174 is one of the few with the 16ms screen with DVI (a must). Who would have thought that after a year its still the best LCD for gaming.

I think I'd like to get my 6 y/o son a nice little (17in or so) LCD for his gaming pleasure. He's been on computers a while now, and I really don't want him to kill his eyes early on in life (then again, I've been looking at semi-crappy screens since my C64 days and my eyesight is still great). The rig also doubles as my and the wife's second machine (if one of us have mine tied up).

He's currently got a viewsonic 17in that sits in 1024x768. However, he has some kid games (education ones like Arthur's Camping Adventure or Scooby Doo) that often will run in only 1 resolution or force to 640. But he still does play a lot of Action games like JKII and Return of the King.

Since his applications vary so greatly on resolution needs, would it be best to just stick with the not-quite-flat-and-kinda-ugly Viewsonic CRT?

His desk is somewhat small and an LCD would be better in that regard (I don't think I could even hand-down my 19" CRT to him and have it fit), but I plan on upgrading his desk soon and the depth and size of a CRT wouldn't matter in the least then.

Some resolutions will look better than others. Resolutions that are multiples of the native resolution may not look that bad. The 171b's native resolution is 1280x1024. 640x480 is half of that so it will look ok. Even with a bigger desk the extra free space from an lcd is always welcome.

You seem so sure of your opinions. How many LCD Moniter have you actually used exactly? If your willing to get a good LCD Moniter it will work fine for gaming. On my NEC 1530v (This model is dis-continued BTW) the only ghosting I've ever been able to notice is the ghosting is when I am connecting to a server in Half-Life with net_stat 3 running in the corner.

I'm really not interested in arguing w/ you. Way to hijack this guy's thread to tell me that I can't post what I have read in reviews. Like I said before STFU and be on your way or stop acting like a troll.

No, you can't. If I was asking for advice, I'd rather have advice for someone who used a LCD. Not some nerd who thinks he knows it all because he reads online reviews for someone elses opinion. You've showed your intrest in argueeing.

I didn't answer the usage question you posed me so you made an assumption on my use of LCD's. How truly ignorant. BTW In order to not look like a total tool before you flame someone write your responses in Word and use a spellchecker then cut and paste into Fusetalk, cause you can't spell for sh!t.

What kind of moron are you to say that someone cannot reiterate what they have read in a publication?? Quit your friggin trolling and move on..... seriously it's getting really lame.

....I am done...Its seems I really got to you  You have my aplogies.

Anyway back on topic, in my opinion. Ghosting is overrated and hyped way too much.
Anyway, OLED are already in Cell Phones how long until we have them in computer and the such?

I have the 17"Hitachi CM-175sx with a 16ms responce time.
No ghosting whatsover and fabulous picture.
My games never looked so good.
Everyone that comes over drool at the picture quality.

I didn't think a LCD could come close, was I wrong.

And another thing, no more headaches from long periods of looking at the screen.

I have the Sony SDM-HX73 and while I won't say it's better than a CRT, I have been very pleased with it's game playing ability. Although, so far I've only played BF1942 and WCIII.
