I want to get a gaming laptop. I build all my desktops but never built a laptop before. Can you build them like desktops? If so I cant find parts. But I want the best gaming laptop for under $1k. I dont mind going a couple hundred over if it gets me A LOT better of machine. Any suggestions?

Forgot to mention. I primarily play WOW and would like something that can run it at max graphics settings and get great FPS.

Since you asked for advice, I'm gonna give it: I'm sticking with that vote for GT267, even despite your criteria for 17" display. The larger screen size only gets you an additional 2 1/2 square inches, at an extra 1.66" width x 1.51 height. It will offer more portability for when you aren't gaming, and you can just move it closer when you are gaming. If you are sticking to the 17" despite the recommendation of people you asked, then the only regret you'll have with the Gateway laptop is not going for a smaller model, and not getting a better screen.

For your consideration, I have the Gateway P-6831FX, with a 17" screen, 1.66 C2D, 3GB RAM, and an 8800M GTS. I have issue with its weight and size, along with heat (the cooling is DEFINITELY not enough) and the LCD panel's contrast ratio, but everything else is good. I ride a bicycle, and have wiped out while carrying it three times now. One of those times I had to replace the screen, but that was because I was hit by a drunk driver. The keyboard is one of the best I've used, and the track-pad is alright. Also, The multimedia buttons are useless. Absolutely useless.

I'd have to disagree. Mine is plenty cool enough, even when gaming.

Gateway P-6831FX is a game machine I heard they still sell a reasonable price so go with Gateway.

Go with the Gateway 7805u FX. I have one myself, my gf has one. Save up the extra $150 for it if your budget is $1000 max.

If you're lucky and persistent, keep refreshing Tigerdirect.com's refurb page and you might find one in stock, theyre supposed to be receiving some more anyday now. Only $750 + shipp. Or I'll sell you one for $800+ship 😉
