Counter-Strike is still the online favorite and the one I play daily and run a server for.
I've been authorized to run an America's Army server (After Hours in NY), but haven't been able to tear myself away from my CS community as yet

CS is great, but at the moment I`ve been playing DoD more then any other online game,so my vote goes to DoD.

Main online games I play are CS,DoD,TFC,UT,Q3.

Counter Strike, Counter Strike, Counter Strike.....until early next year, when we will hopefully get the new Counterstrike:Condition Zero, and then that will be top on my list until Doom 3 comes out. How do I know this already? Well, I can foresee the future, don't ya know

The only reason why CS is so popular is cause it's a newbie game. It takes no skill at all to play CS. The only thing it depends on is who shoots first cause once you get shot, you can't move. Think about it, what takes more skill, Quake3 or CS? That's why there's less Quake players, its a harder game to learn.

I beg to differ. For one thing, you're comparing two entirely different games. Quake 3 is all about twitch reflexes and all it takes is some practice to get this up to par. By your comments, you obviously played Quake 3 first, tried out CounterStrike after hearing about how good it is, got killed and called a NOOB by everyone when you didn't know where to plant/got shot while hiding "perfectly" behind a box/got AWP'd from halfway across the map/etc and then decided that this game takes no skill. Personally, I've played both, was an original Quaker myself, and then once I played CS, I felt a bit like the way you did, but I also realized that this was an entirely different kind of game. True, once you get shot, you don't move, but isn't that a bit more realistic than Quake? There is so much strategy behind CounterStrike, and that is exactly what makes it, dare I say it, MORE fun. Quake 3 looks so much better than Counterstrike, but I have spent more time in the last half year playing CounterStrike than I have ever spent playing Quake 3 since it came out. Please don't get me wrong, I love and respect the Quake 3 game/engine, but your statement showed your ignorance of CS and I just had to retort. By the way, the reason why there is like 100 times more CS players isn't because it's harder, it's because, like I stated, more fun, strategic, and realistic

Actually I started playing CS back in the beta 1 days. I enjoyed the fun factor of being able to strafe, which takes more skill than running and then dunking as fast as possible to get a better shot. How realistic is that? To crouch within 5-10 feet of an enemy after spotting them? I realize that both are completely different games. Quake3 isn't only about reflexes, you actually have to aim cause you don't know where your enemy will be since he CAN MOVE. Uh oh, a moving target, what's the crouching CS player to do??? I used to enjoy playing CS up until Valve bought property rights to it. Then they changed the netcode to help out lpbs, slowed all movement to a crawl, etc. Back in the beta days, nobody relied on crouching because if you did, you were dead. You survived by moving. I'm not arguing on which game is more realistic, my original post was on which game required more skill. Tell me what requires more skill, to shoot a moving target while you yourself are trying to dodge fire OR to run, see an enemy, duck before he does, shoot, hopefully win and come out with low health? And camping isn't strategy.

The main difference between CS and Quake is the fact that CS takes into account the LOCATION of where you shoot. In Quake, using a person with 100 health and 50 armor as an example, it takes about 2 hits from the rail to kill, 2 solid hits from the rocket, about 5 secs of straight gay ray.....er...I mean lightning gun, etc, but in CS, I could have the M4A1 MACHINE GUN, point it directly at you and just let go, but you could have a measly Deagle PISTOL and still kill me with one single headshot if you were good enough. The difference between CS and Quake is finesse. Not only do you have to have aim, but you must also take recoil, movement, position of fire, visibility, and many other factors I can't think of right now into consideration when you attack. Not only is attacking important, but you must be familiar with the layout of the levels, where your objectives lie within each level, anticipation of how your enemy will probably move, stealth, knowledge of every single weapon and how to use them, and many, many other things(trust me)

I didn't really play CS until 1.3(retail version), but since then, I was hooked. I'm not sure how the beta played, but that says it all, it was a beta. At the point you played that game, the mod wasn't even complete and many factors had obviously not been balanced. The OGC cheating that started going rampant with version 1.3 almost turned me off to the game, but then punkbuster, cheating-death, and now Valve itself with release 1.4 and 1.5, have taken care of most cheating and the game is very fun. I suggest you give it a try again, for a couple of weeks, and see if you still believe that CounterStrike is a "noobie" game.

You guys got all the points I would make across... CS takes skill if you're good, sniping can be hard. Ghost Recon is probably one of the most skill oriented games, it is honestly hard. I like every game, and as for Quake, well I don't think it takes much skill. I just started playing and I do pretty well....
