Best Game Title

Deus Ex

Translates literally from Latin into "God From", pulled from the original and well known phrase "Deus Ex Machina", or "God from the Machine". Anyone who's played the game realizes how perfectly the title suits the game and the story. "Deus Ex Machina" commonly refers to the seeming intervention of an author or scriptwriter in such a way that the story's internal logic is breached - in other words, "playing God" to make things occur as they normally wouldn't in such a situation, for no discernable reason.

"Playing God" has strong overtones not just with Deus Ex's storyline, but also how you play, how you construct your character, what choices you make, etc.

Deus Ex, no question.

This is the winner. You can lock this thread now.

Amazingly hard question to answer. Let me be a coward and split into categories:

RPG: Fallout 1 & 2 (or The Elders Scrolls series)
FPS: Half-Life 1
RTS: Age of Empires 1 & 2

Deus Ex, as mentioned above, is also a very strong candidate. They both look lovely for their time, but the first one has the best story/gameplay I think. It's wonderful.

I feel a sense of shame by not being able to declare only one favorite. I've played so many good games. Played the Need for Speed series the most, no doubt. If I have to choose one winner, I'll say:

Half-Life 1. Because of it's gripping storyline, intense action and the ground-breaking of the fps-genre. I've played it over and over and over again. After completing it 2-3 times, I started using console commands to play around. This normally gets me bored of a game, but in HL1 it was only fun. I played around for months. In 2nd place: Fallout. Still a sense of shame.
