I remember this one map where there was this compartment in which I would hide in. I'd setup my holoduke across the room and my friend would use his jetpack to slowly rise up and start shooting away at the holo-duke. I'd then blow him away with my RPG.
Next time, I'd reverse it and put the holo-duke in the compartment and stand out in plain sight. Of course he'd start shooting up the holo-duke
hehe. i liked putting pipe bombs in the elevators and waiting for someone to try using the elevator. :D BLAM gibfest

LOL those were good too. But man I loved the Holo-duke. One of our favorite maps was the Stadium one. I'd always bust out with the jet pack and fly way up in the sky. And my friend would keep trying to shoot me down with RPGs. Once in a while, I'd see the RPG coming towards me and I'd freeze and BLAMO!@#!#@

Collude you biatch, I needs the energy...

I prefer the NES version over the C64.

Also, Starcraft is the best in it's genre. Other games rival it as far as being classics. Come on a mere 7 years on the shelves? Try Xcom collectors edition, up until a few years back... A lot of games get the collectors edition treatment and have a long shelf life, though they tend to get lumped into the great games of yester year bundles.

please explain to me how either of these games were revolutionary. sure they were one of the best types for their genre, but i would never consider them revolutionary by any means.

I think in the way strategy was used in SC/BW was really out there. Before that it was really just the en masse I have 100 guys and you only have 99 guys so I win fighting. SC introduced three completely different fighting styles and various ways to bring an opponent down. Reaver drops, zergling rushes, dark templar attacks, cloaked wraiths, nukes. All kinds of nasty steathly tatics that could utterly cripple an opponent. A few units could upset the game easily. I had never seen anything like it in an RTS game before.

Have you played the new Open GL version of Duke 3d? It works well in Windows XP but I wasn't able to get the networking to work nicely.

I'm not gonna declare one game better than all others because I havent played enough games, but damn if SC/BW wasn't incredible. WC3 added to the gameplay but somehow lost SC's frenetic soul.

Still one of the best games ever, and IMO, like all great games, much of the gameplay wasn't inetntional (see CS from Half Life for corroboration).

I wanna re-install it now.

My life for Aiur!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG QFT FTW

I remember how easy it was to "hack" the one file that lets you set costs of items and attributes. I gave my friend Stealth mammoth tanks but I didn't tell him that I made my stealth tanks only cost $1.

There was this island that was full of tiberian but he could never send his harvester out there and couldn't figure out why. Only later after I told him did he realize that I had over 80 stealth tanks waiting on that island to storm his base!
Oh and I made the power consumption for all of my buildings equal to 0. So he had 3 stealth mammoth tanks camped around each power generator and was planning on taking me down before my tesla coils could get busy. Then the god damned phone rang :(

Same here :) I loved the multiplayer, and the fact there were so many units available for download. Would spend hours sometimes doing skirmish on custom maps, with uber units like Krogoth and multi-tiered defenses. Would be hot if TA 2 ever comes out, but seems less likely than even Starcraft 2 coming out.
