Get an older s13 240sx hatchback for around $2000, pick up an SR20DET redtop w/ trans and ECU for about $2000, then do a sileighty conversion with the remaining $2000.

Camaro or Firebird. These cars deliver the type of fun it seems you are talking about. It's a whole different world when you're comparing them to Civics and Corollas, though! :D

However... if you start driving one of those, you will NOT want to go back. So warn your wallet ahead of time, cause it will end up costing you more. IMO, it is well worth it. :)

My 89 5.0l mustang is $450 a year and my 89 caravan turbo is $325 a year so no they don't cost as much more as you would think to insure. Being 27 does help a little though :).

bump, and i just saw this on a local dealerships inventory:

1996 volkswagen jetta 'trek'
black, 57,000, 2.0L, a/c, bucket seats, tilt, airbags, etc...
they are asking 5k$

i was thinking thats pretty low mileage, and the 'trek' edition should be nicer than base...thats a good price? how are these?

240 is a good idea..

imo a better option is what I drive.. a 200sx se-r :p

Course.. I have a gti-r engine (the sr20det the other dude was talking about..)

and it is fwd.. but PLENTY of fun, FAST, reliable, and insurance isn't too bad..

I bought my 98 se-r w/ 50k for $5000. It was bone stock and had all records...

I have had no problems with either engine..
