Fresh Hood strawberries are the single greatest thing on earth. Like, better than bacon. I mean fresh; you pull them off of the vine and pop them in your mouth fresh. They're nature's candy.

You guys all fail. The best fruit is the DRAGONFRUIT. JUST BY ITS AWESOME NAME IT WINS.

Dragon fruit is one of the most tasteless fruit that is in existent.

Water melon, mango, longan, mangosteen, lychee, jackfruit, soursop, rambutan, and last but not least is star apple (Vietnamese: vu sua = breast milk) it the fruit from the Gods. And, they stand head and shoulder over that of the crappy dragon fruit (my grand parents farm grew dragon fruit for the market, and we fed it to the pigs and cows, because it is not tasty enough for human consumption).

Trust me, you've never had a good one.

My first mango was in the Navy when we hit Italy or Malta or someplace.
Fucking awesome shit! Soft, super sweet, awesome texture. Since coming back to the US I have never had one as good as that. All the stuff in American supermarkets is shit by comparison. I cant even finish one.

If you ever travel abroad, make sure to get them. So good you will feel sad you cant bring back a case.
Fuck yeah. +1000

Calamansi, but only because most of ATOT has never tasted one which makes me cool and because I have a calamansi tree in the back yard

Another bump for mangosteen after having them in Thailand, though I do love a good watermelon or Asian pear.

Oh yeah, mangosteens are absolutely fantastic but they are so picky. They seem as troublesome to keep as lychee. But when I do get a good one... MMMMMMMMmmmmmmmm.

Yeah, the OP is full of crap.

Durian = King of Fruit 😀
Mangosteen = Queen of Fruit 🙂

I prefer Mangosteen 😀

Cheers,
Aquaman

My boss has told me stories about durian.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durian
"The smell evokes reactions from deep appreciation to intense disgust, and has been described variously as almonds, rotten onions, turpentine and gym socks. The odour has led to the fruit's banishment from certain hotels and public transportation in southeast Asia."

Funny story:
http://junechua.suite101.com/durian--the-king-of-fruit-a6845.html

"The hotel staff demanded to know if they had durian in the room. Her mother lied. The official replied: "Madam, we have had reports of a durian smell in your vicinity, please tell us if you have durian." Mom did not relent.

Her parents opened all the windows and were furiously fanning the room with the hotel magazine when they heard a knock on the door. A man dressed like an astronaut was standing on the other side.

"We have located the durian smell to this room, please step aside."

Two men, wearing the ridiculous suit and bearing a spray can charged in and spent the next five minutes atomizing the hotel room. Val's parents stood in the corner looking very much like the naughty children that they had been.

i love all kinds of fruit. i'm not sure what's my favorite, but i do consume quite a bit of oranges, watermelons, and nectarines.

The best I can describe durian is this. It has the texture of stringy custard, this is universally agreed upon. The taste really is VERY unique. I don't like it but I don't vomit either. To me it tastes like a mix of the following:

An overripe banana
A little Onions
A little Garlic
A hint of raw bell pepper
And yes it really does smell like something rotten.

I need to try some durian. I can't imagine it being worse than fresh papaya.

I don't like papaya much either. But seriously? That description doesn't put you off? Again I can stomach it but I know a LOT of people can't and you don't sound that adventurous from your post above indicating not having heard of a lot of these.

What is that last fruit? They look like the fruits from the original Fallout, only more dry, and apparently containing a translucent onion-like skin.

I like onions and garlic. In fact, as far as plants go (ignoring grains/breads) I would say they are my favorite. Raw bell peppers, not so much, but everyone else in my family loves those. Banana is a fine flavor, just a weird texture. The stringy custard texture thing would be the largest hurdle to get over.

And I've heard of and tried some of the more exotic ones mentioned here (dragonfruit, mangosteen... ok not that many).
