That expression seems to be etymologically related to the similar acronyms "FUBAR" and "SNAFU"... ;)

And thats the problem........a lot of users never have a problem with this software and PRESUME its 100% OK. But, by the same token, a lot of users DO have problems with this software.........and fail to spot what the route cause of their problems are.

I'm not really seeing your logic there dude....

Is it a problem that I presume I have no problems when nothing has yet led me to believe that I might have a problem?

I use sygate personal firewall and it's pretty solid.

alot more control than ZA and without all the conflicts

Ditto from me here... Sygate is so way better than ZA.

Get the free one here... http://smb.sygate.com/products/spf_standard.htm

Here's a help page someone put up... http://bellsouthpwp.net/i/k/ikpe/SygateBasics.html

Anyone used the Sygate Rules from the bellsouth webpage? Any problems yet?

I have seen people are not happy with ZoneAlarm but I am curious about Pro version? I have no problem with Pro version 3 and then now 4.0...I used default setting and nothing is wrong.
ZA Pro prevented my applications which require the FTP protocol (ftp.exe, Macromedia Dreamweaver, etc.) from working, despite those applications being in ZA's "allow" list. It also somehow caused my ICS computer (the one it was running on) to drop LAN connectivity every few days and as such required a reboot since there would be no other way to restore local network function (yes, my ethernet adapter was in the Local Zone). It was a general PITA, so I went back to plain ol' ICF, despite that being less "secure" in the outbound security area than ZA.

Which version are you talking about? Just curious.

I haven't used anything but ZA and I'm unaware of any problems. They send me periodic emails when they have "significant" updates and I download and install the latest version, keeping my previous settings. I'm using Win2000. I've always been pretty impressed that it's well written software - not buggy software. However, I'm going to subscribe to and read this thread carefully and consider changing if I get that idea from what I read here.

ZA tries to get you to buy the pro version every time you upgrade (it's an option) but I've never bitten. I use a free popup killer (Google Toolbar), and I've not seen any reason to pay for my firewall.
