I tried Freemake Video converter but it was flagged as a virus by SuperAntiSpyware Pro

I tried Xmedia Recode, added a job to convert, selected what profile I want, but couldn't figure out how to start the freakin' job!

Any good free video converter that supportsm any other formats like DivX, 3iVx, 3GP, RM, MOV? And doesn't need you to reinvent the wheel to get the job done?

I use Freemake Video Converter and am happy with it. Avast and MBAM have no issue with it, I think it's a false positive with SAS. Where did you download it from? I noticed in the other thread(Best media player) you post download links to sites other than the developers.

I've used xmedia recode, and it works well. Play around with it more, you'll figure it out.

The best, imo and if you're willing to limit yourself to x264 output, is Handbrake.

I got it back then from MajorGeeks, this was last month and I reported it on their forums that it disappoints me that such a good host as MajorGeeks is offering Malware crap

Except there's no malware in it. I don't know what SAS is reporting. I even scanned my system with the Eset online scanner last month and it didn't flag it either. I lost some faith in SAS a while ago anyway, still decent but there's better. Again, I download programs right from the developers site, I don't bother with Filehippo, MajorGeeks, etc...

Maybe it was just that version that had something in it? Coz now SAS didn't report it as anything. Or maybe SAS has fixed the definitions to not flag that False Positive.

It is working fine now and its pretty decent for a free program I reckon

I think it was a FP. It's a good program, it converts to a lot of different formats and is easy to use. I tried several others and either I had to sit there for an hour and set everything up or they just didn't work.

I will also suggest Super since the user wants a free program. It does a very good job.

Ripbot264 - All of the functionality of Handbrake (except for multiple audio tracks) and much easier to use.

The funny thing is I will download just about any program. Then I will use it to try to convert some random youtube flv clip to xvid in an avi container. And they always blow up. Really irritating...

I'll test that actusoft one tonight.

Super is just a bad joke. Who the heck wants to fiddle with 14,348 different settings in the hopes of finding one that works? I want something that works, and is usable. Like Fairuse wizard. Works every time. It works so well infact and compresses so well that I will convert a file to dvd and then turn it into an iso just so i can run it thru fairuse wizard. It's just way too many steps though.

I tried many video converters. The ones I'd recommend are: Avidemux, MeGUI and Xmedia Recode.

They might not be the super simple "one click convert" solutions, but once you familiarize yourself with the options you can do a lot with them.

There's a big "Encode" button at the top. Click it. :)

Super seems the best option from the suggestions presented until now; will also try it to see what it can offer

I use Freemake Video Convertor and it works great for me. It also does audio conversions too.

Try Super. I don't know if it's the best - especially since you haven't defined what best is - but it gets the job done.

Super used to be my choice, but now it's so bloated with adware that I refuse to use it.

Freemake here now, has done everything i've asked of it so far and works easily/quickly.

Freemake has addware so naturaly some antivirus programs will warn you about it,just do a custom install and de-select the "added value" soft you don't want.
X media recode is very good.
Handbrake is also very good and has quicksync support for intel processors, converting a whole movie in ~15min is very nice.

I've used handbrake and vidcoder, which has a 'target size' that handbrake doesn't have.

Can anyone suggest a video editor, for splicing and cutting, in the least? I can never get Microsoft Movie Maker to install.
