Looking for a basic FREE DHCP server for small office use for my customer. Tight budget, so no W2K3 servers etc...

If anyone has any experiences/ can recommend something I would appreciate. Setting up a single server for DB/print sharing/DHCP... running XPPro SP2. If the program can be made to run as a service, it would be nice, less hassle for me that is :)

If it's XP Pro you can enable ICS and that has a dhcp server built in, not sure ify ou can enable it seperately or not though.

Theres no router, just the switch and one machine with 2 NICs connected to ADSL modem sharing the internet connection.

ICS is not really a DHCP server, it would hand out IPs assigned by ISPs dhcp server in this case...

Thanks I will have a look!

XP Pro has a built in DCHP server if you know how to set it up, without using ICS.

It also has much of the normal server tools, such as a web server, ftp server etc, check out administrative tools.

could you get a basic linksys router for like 30 bucks or so that would work? hook that to the modem, the switch to the router, and you'd be set, and not need any software dhcp servers either.
