I received my Lite-on CD-RW as a bare drive without even the cables or installation manual, never mind the Nero software. So what's the best free CD-RW software so I can test it out?

Why don't you like Nero? The most useful features and the most spacially economical software (11MBs, I think). Easy CD Creator is 100MBs of crap (look at the burning speeds and compare it to Nero, or several others) and most other apps just emulate Nero's template.
Just wondering...

There is a demo version of Nero that you can use to test your burner

on a sidenote, a cd key for the demo isn't too hard to obtain using google.com ;)

---

If you even hint about "keygens, serialz, or warez" again in the future, you will get a swift kick in the nads plus a one way ticket out of here.

I personally like CD-Clone for backup and copy purposes Blind Write is also good. It's not free though but you do get to try it for 30 days before u have to register it.

If you want free CD burning software I'm not sure where you get it. I'm not going to mention P2P sites as a resource ;)
But if you are in the market for a new CD-RW by any chance you can't beat a Lite-On 32X burner from www.newegg.com which comes bundles with a Lite version of Nero Burning Rom.

I too bought mine oem and it came with a nero cdrom, maybe you should have a talk with your vendor.

Even with a oem drive they usualy provide a software cd.

I failed to mention that its a refurb from newegg.

Why don't you like Nero?

I didn't say I don't like Nero, I said it didn't come with Nero.

Thanks for the info on the demo version. As for finding a CD key on google, I'm not really into warez ;)

It's not warez if you d/l the demo from ahead's website and use someones serial number. Why dont you call newegg and tell them that no software came with it and see if they'll send you a legal copy.

Uh, yeah its still warez. And why would newegg do that? If it was refurb it was probably labeled drive only, so they can sell it cheaper. But hey, if you think newegg is giving away free software ask for a copy of WinXP for me, will you? thanks. :)

I e-mailed newegg, they said they promised me a drive, I got a drive, all I get is a drive. Only it took them about 2 or 3 paragraphs to say it in a more friendly way.

So I'll use the Nero demo for testing my CD-RW. Is it a feature-limited demo or a time-limited demo? If its time-limited, are there any free/really cheap CD-RW programs that are worth bothering with? I just checked and the full version of Nero costs more than I paid for my drive! I wish I'd realized that the drive came with no software when I bought it :( But I realize its my own fault for not paying attention.
