Best framework for developing a site with login capabilities?

I'm working with this website for a client that is built on DotNetNuke, quite frankly it sucks and I'm tired of it. Maybe it's just me, but it seems to be a mess and difficult to upgrade.

What would you say is the best framework to build a site on that basically just displays simple info, has some pictures and links, a few files available for download, and eventually will be able to maintain 30-some user accounts with login credentials. It'd also be nice if I could write custom pages and capabilities for this site in C# somehow.

Why confine yourself to frameworks? Just write it yourself

Something simple that you just want to hack out. I'd go with PHP and mySQL.

Would this be difficult? I have no experience with mySQL or PHP but I have experience in C#, C++, VB, Java, and MS SQL Server and SQL in general.

Just use .Net 2.0 and MS SQL Server. They have built in login controls that you just drop on a page and then put some lines into the web.config.

Heh...I thought the web.config file was specific to DotNetNuke.

Oh my...

It's a web app specific thing. You'll get an app.config if you write a Windows app in .Net.
